View Full Version : Patch-It?
AdamT 09-10-2003, 03:54 AM I notice that Motion Gimmick's plugin Patch-it has been released (http://www.motion-gimmick.com/). Anyone know if there is an English version and/or docs? Some of the pics look very promising (topo lines!!), but the webpage is incrompehensible to a non-German speaker and the .avi's are anything but self explanatory.

hi adam, we bought it already.
i am trying at the moment to figure out as it works.
it is certainly not a "one button wizard tool", but makes some nice things easier i guess.
i will post later when i have more time, and have tested a little more with the plug.
cheers

Hi Guys!
I tried it already.. the basic workflow is like this:
-start the plugin
-select "objects"--> "input points"
- drop your points & splines into the window (close with "ok")
- chose "point select tool" - now you see all available points (yellow)
- mark the points you want to be used in your mesh (they change to green)
- click on tryangels (you get a preview mesh)
- if you are not happy with the result try another camera angle
(the building of the mesh is related to the camera position)
- finally click on "make it" to get the final version
- further you can now untriangelize it and put it into a hypernurbs
(you also can save and load point selections)
cheers

There's no demo and I don't see it listed on their order form. How did you guys get the plugin?

i send an email directly to motion-gimmick.
dagmar patzer will answer your question, though she is german.
(but she speaks english, i guess)
they said there is no demo, but for that they make it only 20 euro.
dagamr said its no wondertool but still very handy for a lot of tasks. there are 5 learning movies,, but havent checked them now.

especially to squirrel for your helpful translation ;o)
We never thought that so many users would mail us feedbacks to this plugin! Whow!!!! It makes us optimistic (sorry, my english is awful, I know) to continue it with updates and new ideas for modelling. Please send us your ideas for better workflow or features and we will do our best to program the next version ;o)
to: patchit@motion-gimmick.com
First thing we will do is to update the menue.
I think better would be one menue without submenues.
...And we are thinking about creating parts of patches with "tryangles" and put them together before "Making" the patch.
cheers

make a search for spline patching, you'll find a lot of Lw tutorials and understand how patches work.
