@SeanL maybe just read the site.
1st place:
1 x Add-The-Sea
1 x Visual Selector
1 x DPInstantTree
Have to admit that the corkscrew is definetly the best work made there. sorry but that vote wasn't quite good.
Was it a chalenge comparable to cgtalk.com or something different. sorry didn't follow.

Oh, I misunderstood.
I just glanced at those and thought that they were plugins that were used to create the various illustrations...

Sorry, but can you please tell me why the vote was not good?
Here is my answer why we voted as we did:
The idea of the cork screw is great. We all agreed in that point (and surely was the funniest), BUT the texturing was VERY simple, the environment was fitting but nothing fancy (same for the chief), the lighting could have been better though also smoothly in place, the modeling was good but we assumed it wasnīt as time consuming as the other two (same for texturing etc.).
So now I want to hear your reasons why it was "misvoted".
Thank you
I think the corkscrew has the most polished look...
Sure it's relatively simple, but IMHO it's the most pleasing picture... (Wich in the end is what it's all about). Though all of the winners are pretty cool...
BTW Where can I get JeyJey's Character Tutorial DVD?

Thatīs your right.. :)

Sorry, but thatīs wrong. Pleasing and being a good contest picture is a huge difference. The character and the situation (which logically includes environment) were the main purposes; but we are still working with a rendering system, which means lighting, modeling and texturing is a big part in each and every rendering, so this has a weight of 30%-40%.
And the sum of all these components couldnīt have been given this picture the first price, even if itīs the most "charming"...
But of course, I donīt want to put our vote above all others and say ours the only one that can be right, but others shouldnīt try to do so either...
Though all of the winners are pretty cool...
Yes, I agree. The main purpose is still the fun and the learning factor (and the prices... *g*)

CGChannel.com I think but not sure anymore. Unfortunately itīs only available in german :\

Sorry people for giving this comment in german but for giving an english translation i feel a bit too right now. Hope everything is clear for now.
Maybe for a better understanding of your challenge rules plz tell me again where to find the guidelines for this challenge.
Like to say good night

I'd vote for the corkscrew as well. :) Obviously you can use whatever criteria you prefer, but to me a so-so image that was hard to make is not better than a good image that might have been less time consuming.

I like the corkscrew but can see why the winner won....But can anyone tell me what is embarassing about the second picture (chef with chicken?) or did I miss something?

Man, that took very long :) This was exactly the same question we had when we looked at the picture. It took quite a while until we figured it out.
The "chicken" is burned (itīs very dark) and so itīs embarrassing for the master chef when he opened up the plate...

Heh, I had the same question and came to the same conclusion, although frankly it doesn't look burned. Could be a glaze or something.
Thanks Sinai, I just ordered it. :buttrock:

sorry but i think, too, the corksrew is the better work of the 3.
the textures and the light in for the 1st and 2nd place are , well, "not so good" in my opinion.
this is of course, just a personal opinion. the jury did its job. i would have decided differently thats all.
but i think it is a nice idea to organize such events.
cheers

Same thought here, a small lump of charcoal with chicken wings would have been more fitting, it just doesn't convey the idea as it is now IMHO.

Hi everyone - I do agree with you about the Chef and the chicken (I made the pic) - I tried a much blacker tex map and it didn't look burned - just black and not like a chicken. I'd hoped to get a better burnt look - and that the smoke would help - or even a better idea and a decent background, but just ran right out of time.
It was good learning for me though, and I'm very pleased to come second whatever the circumstances :)

well done chrissyboy...you make a good point being able to submit an entry on time and essentially to deadline is part of the competition process.
