Hey, Cgtalkers, very nice contest this one, so im in, i don't know if i will have the time for this one but i'll try anyway! :)
My main idea is to make a tree with two faces a good one, with some green fairies, and an evil one, with some red fairies, somethig like a Ying-Yang Tree.

Here is the beginning::wip: :wip:

You also could make the roots that go in the ground and the branches differ from shapes. and maybe the part of the good one has leaves that are green and the other less and rotten dak ones

Cool Idea

But Yin has got a bit of Yang and reverse. so how woold you do that. If you want to do that.
IDEA:
Like a nice little cute burd sitting on the evil side and a big mean flesh eating crow on the nice side

Hey that's a very cool concept

Your branches still need a lot of refining - at the moment they look a little too much like tentacles waving around (although that would be quite cool too in a weird kinda way :insane: ...)

Are there going to be leaves on the tree as well?
And what kind of environment is it going to be in??

I love the way the evil side's eyes are narrowed

Hey, Iguiniz.X.'s idea of a bit on the one in the other is very cool  That would be awesome to do - a small but great little detail, that not everybody would notice immediately. It really would give the concept more substance :)

Hey, Thanks for the reply!

Iguiniz.X.
Branches are only temp(i hope) they're really bad now!! :p
Leaves colors was my idea too, maybe add some yellow leaves on the evil side.
The evil have good, end good have evil, yes, i know that, i thought initially on fairies doing this job, but if i have time i'll use yours(much better then mine)

Leigh
yeah, branches sucks, i'll fix it!:)

Good start with the leaves. I agree I think that you need a lot more of those skinny twiggy branches.

I think it would be great if you had more of those branches, primarily coming from the top of the tree, and have them fan out, like an umbrella over the whole scene. Just a thought.

Nice leaves btw...

:applause:
That is going excelent man.
Really cool
And we share names, well at least one

Idea:
Maybe it is cool that the sun is on the side of the good part of the tree so the bad side is in the dark.
2nd: The dark side can have sharp theeth istead of the round mouth

I find it weird that I can see through one eye and out the other, (sounds like me with ears) I mean I understand they go into the tree but kinada odd that they would be a hollowed out section. not huge jst odd.

Fala aí, Prisoner!

Great idea - I can't wait to see more of it.

But I have to agree with Kaiskai comment - I believe the "evil"side is too dark.
Maybe you could work with hot/cold colors - make one side blue or green, and the opposite orange or red.

Also, you could make a kind of neutral BG, so the main tree would get more proeminence .

Good luck!

Much nicer, and I don't know how long you worked on the yinyan, but take it out in my opinion, I understand your purpose for it, but it takes focus being highcontrast and Black and white, and is is a common icon meaning even more focus attracted, and it seems to make me as the audience feel stupid that yo didn't think I could figure out your scene without the explanation, This may be a harsh crit, my apologies butIt doesn't fit with the scene, maybe if you found a way to sneeak it in there instead a putting it in high contrast, black and white, and center center.

Really like the lighting now the darkside looks much nicer.

Kaiskai:
You got a good point there, Kaiskai.
yes, my main idea was to make a high contrast scene, but i didin't figured out that this could happen. if i take of the yin-yang simbol would help?

-OZ-:
Master -OZ- liked my idea, my modeling and my light!!
Thank you very much -OZ-, but that lighting isn't working right when i put a brown color on the tree, i'll take the kaiskai idea and see what i will do.

I'm not saying take it out nec essarily, but look at how to make it a little more subtle if you want the yin yan in there.

As for the brouwn, Add an arangish hue to it, may work though part of the problem is the way the colours are set up. not that the colours don't work, but that the way they are placed is giving you some limitations. Currently they are all primary which is fine, but you can pinpoint each colour quite easily and its position in the page, the blue is bottom right, yellow is bottom left, red is middle left, green is top center. try adding a touch of those colours in other areas in the picture like you have with the red in the glow.

Hey Prisoner

Indeed a cool idea, but i aswell must say that its way too dark as it is now. One idea would to do it like

Having The "dark side" have old and dead vegetation, while the "good side" is all green and flurishing. Half the big tree could be old and covered with mushrooms and stuff, while the other side has green leaves on the branches..well..you get the picture :)

Prisoner
06-09-2002, 12:27 AM
yes, you're right, it is my idea, dead trees+dark light, but i didin't thought about doing modifications on the main tree. i don't know if i can, but i'll try!:)
i think i'll forget about darkness and go for life dead trees, as people here are sugesting.
talking about trees:p, your chalenge entry is awsome!!
