just don't use this card for maya.

ATI+maya = bad things

you're taking a gamble on it if you're a maya user. Most people experience laggy selection on high polygon models in maya with ATI cards

They did 3 different tests with 3 different processors. The first two hit 71 and 72 fps and the third hit 66. Here's the link to the second procs test http://www.3dprofessor.org/Reviews%20Folder%20Pages/V8800/V8800P8.htm

That thing has 2 gigs of ram on it, crazyness.

In regards to the post above mine, as I've posted before on this board I run a Radeon HD 4870 1gb softmodded into a Firepro V8700 and it runs great with maya on Windows 7 64bit. I haven't had a single problem with this card and Maya.

right, but you're the only person I've ever seen say they were happy with their firepro card in maya. I've lost track of how many people have had problems with maya using firepro cards

Maybe it's an exception for the 8000 series?

I keep loading every single new driver ATI comes out with and they're geting better, but still a 5-8 second lag selecting a heavy-ish object. At least the manipulator draws correctly now though instead of always all black

Did you cleaned your drivers with driversweeper?

Did you cleaned your drivers with driversweeper?

I don't think that's it. I've tried 3 different machines, xp64 and win7 64 and they all do the same thing. A lot of other users have experienced the same things. Though I will say the early ATI drivers were sloppy as all hell with forcing you to install .net 2.0 and then uninstall it when you removed the driver etc. One time it screwed .net up so bad it wouldn't let me uninstall the driver because I had a newer version of .net so I did a clean format and started over.....never been a problem like that with nvidia cards

Everytime I try a new driver, I uninstall the old ones with the ATI uninstaller first before installing the new ones

This might be interesting. Ive seen reports of amazing speedups in existing ogl apps, seems theyve largely remade the ogl side of things. Ill give it a go tomorrow and report in

Except if you look around the forum there are others who post positive experiences with the cards. I'm sorry you're having a bad go with it. My last Nvidia card gave me NOTHING but trouble but I realize that was one experience and there are others out there. I know there was someone here who had the radeon 5350 or 5850 something like that who posted a ton of positive experiences with the card. I have a couple friends who took their 4870s to V8700s and they're giving them no problems. The selection bug has been gone for some time, so its weird to see you still having it. Personally I would suggest running the driver sweeper as it sounds like something with the opengl aspect of the drivers isn't getting uninstalled.

well I've tried the card in 4 machines now. This last one is a brand new i7 machine with a fresh copy of win7 64 and the same crap with the selection issue in maya. This is a brand new machine and the only card ever to be installed in the machine with their latest driver.

The high end ATI cards must be doing something different than their low end cards which is a shame because it's just not usable at all for maya. This experience and how sloppy their drivers are has led me to not consider ATI to be a serious pro solution. I could go on and on about the million little bugs they've had with setting refresh rates and .net 2.0 issues - which only took them 8 months to finally fix.

I think the ATI cards are probably great cards for most 3d apps...just not maya unless you happen to get their top end card.

Are you sure its not the card itself that's busted and not the drivers? Every now and then broken cards do get into the hands of customers. What model card do you have again? My card before my current one was a HD2600 softmodded into a FireGL. That did have the selection bug that delayed selecting polygons when you had big million plus poly scenes. Though like I said a few driver revisions back they did fix that. I'm really surprised you're still experiencing it. Which makes me wonder if some aspect of one of the older drivers isn't getting uninstalled.

i'm totally convinced it's the drivers. It was a V3750

and I really don't think this is an uninstall issue. I've put this thing in 3 setups with a fresh install of windows xp64 and brand new install of win7 64 and the only graphics driver to ever be installed was the latest version for the 3750.

the selection bug has gotten slightly better from their drivers 5 months ago, but only barely. Maybe the higher end cards are just that much faster to deal with it to the point you're not noticing
