This updates to version 8.207, while the update that came with BP2 was 8.205. Anyone know what the differences are?

Almost none, i think they smashed a couple of bugs, nothing else.

thanks monkey this makes my day!! La la la la la :D

The only thing is is that the server must be really busy cuz its downloading at a terribly slow 8 kb/s :surprised

note: 8.2 update is 46 megabytes - the servers will probably be slow for a while with that size download

Hi,
there no real difference other then that you need 8.207 to run the old BodyPaint 1 modul. The 8.205 delivered with BP 2 is only meant to be used with BP 2.

BTW the users of the old BP 1 Modul will share some of the workflow improvements that came with BP 2 when they use 8.207.

Cheers

Like what?

I havent upgraded to BP2 yet-still using BP1 module. What should I look for?

Srek

First of all the LW Transfer and then a large number of small workflow improvements and Interface enhancements. Sorry, i haven't got a comprehensive list.
Cheers

That's great, Srek, it's rare to see a software company look after the users of its older products - this will help get me ready for BP2 when the bank manager allows!

so if you've installed BP2 and 8.205, should you bother to install 8.207?

Not to sound dumb, but isn't 8.207 the same version number as that of the"unofficial" release from last week? I'm pretty sure that it is.

Apparently 8.207 includes an upgrade of BP 1 to BP 1.1.

There is a description of this BP 1.1 upgrade on the Maxon site in the new section describing 8.2.

Online? Anything but.

One download server only....sheees! What were they thinking?

cookepuss
09-09-2003, 05:12 PM
Use a download manager like GetRight. It'll try the server every 60 seconds so you don't have to. It is kinda slow though. Even on DSL, I'm only getting 6.2K/s. :thumbsdow

LucentDreams

I should have some extra stability in 8.207 along witn the support for 1.1, so I would upgrade. Its not as essential for you, so I would likleywait a few days for the server to speed up

Jake-L

Yep, I suppose easy does it....eventually.

On a more positive note, the fact that Maxon provides an update for BP1 is a pleasant surprise & a very good faith-restorer ;)

No action neccesary, the changes form 8.205 to 8.207 only apply to the BP 1 users.

Was tempted myself, but figured if I said it there would be a huge debate about maxon and I'd be accused of being elitist and it would totally ruin the goodness of this thread ;)

does anyone know whate the red and green dots in the radiosity presampling are supposed to be? in 8.1 these dots used to be white.

am i right that the green dots are standing for caustics?

LucentDreams
09-09-2003, 06:32 PM
I can't remember what the difference between green and red was, but the reason they changed them to smaller red dots is because too many users thought the white dots were actual illumination in the scene (especially new users who don't understand the concept of prepasses.)

This is good news although i think i'll wait a few days for the rush to die down :)

So, when's 8.3, 4 and 5 coming out?......just kidding, please dont throw things at me ;)

Now if only every other company in the world was a helpfull as Maxon..:)

Just count. 8.1 was out in march i think, 8.2 has been released in september, so the third update (Maxon usually releases 3 updates) should be out around Xmas i guess. After the 3 updates they usually focus on the new generation of the program.

I got the distinct impression that the reason that it took until now
for such a seemingly small update (feature-wise) to ship, given
how quickly Maxon seems to be on the draw otherwise, is that
they were focussing on BP2, which isn't exactly a small update.

Not that 8.2 isn't a sweet freebie... but compared to, say, v8 or
BP2, it's pretty miniscule :D

hmm a free point release miniscule compared to a whole new version. Odd how that would work, as I was rewading the sentence I thought it would say miniscule compared to 8.1 which would make sense.

But the reason it took so long (well since sig at least) was mainly for BP1.1 but yeah its development would likely be in line with that of BP2, considering a lot of the features like material list were designed around the BP2 material manager list/layer and the default light being inteactive now was designed for adjusting the light while painting Still even if BP2 wasn't released at this time I'm sure they would have had a new version of cinema ready for siggraph anyways, and I agree with alberto, xmas seems like a logical next step, but maxon's always full of surprises

ok now i've installed 8.207...and i have BP1....what if i wanna upgrade BP...would i just install BP2 direct and miss any update i expect?? or is does it specifically need to be the update version (8.205) that shipped with bp2?

The silly grin emoticon was there for a reason -- I was being
somewhat facetious in comparing the 8.2 release to BP2 :)

Don't know if this is a real new BodyPaint Plague™ or it's just the change of the nature of the workflow with the new v1.1

After the Cinema 8.2 update. In BodyPaint 1.1 I no longer be able to paint directly on the model. Also when I paint the texture in the texture view the model doesn't update itself until I move the camera around.

Any idea?

Off topic regarding the thread but I will jump in to say this, maxon never promised it for the summer that was Kaydara, and a stupid thing for kaydara to do since they aren't developing the plugin, its like maxon saying Maya 6 will be available by christmas how would they know.

Hi,
no plague there :)
Please check if you have the bursh tool active. Only when it's active you can paint in 3D and get realtime updates between texture and 3D view.

Well Kaiskai I was (wrongly) waiting for this in the 8.2, not so off topic...
You are right about Kaydara. I begin to feel that I have been really wrong to buy their product. I believed their words with too much enthousiasm.

Now this is way off topic : What about your modelisation (edge extrude) tutorial CDs ?? :D

I already annouced the modeling one is dead, though the two clips that I did have done before starting the rigging CD I will get uploaded to c4dportal when I have some free time, business is business and when theres lots of it its busy business. Four the next 24 hours I"m definitely not able to do anything related to cd's.

Hi,
I just recently aquired C4D 8.2 and BP 1 as a Maxon summer special and need some nubie help. I originally received BP2 in error with a BP1 serial number and got a'wrong serial number'
message. Maxon sent the correct BP1 CD, but it doesn't ask for a serial number when it installs and will not open in C4D. Registration template shows only C4D.

Splash screen indicates C4D 8.206. Comments on this forum say
new download update is 8.207 which is required to make BP1 work. Sounds good. Now my nubie bit: softwares I have delt with before all had CD upgrades (Strata 3d Pro), so I have never upgraded from a download before. I have downloaded the new 8.207 upgrade into my Maxon file, expanded it, but need to know what is the procedure for installing it. BTW I'm on a PC.

Thanks for any help or direction! Love Cinema, just need to get the BP thing resolved.

its an executable file, will require your cd be in the dirve during installation, but it installs just like it would from any other installer file.

Silverdog

Kaiskai,
With the original CD in the drive: does this modify the existing
installation, or does it create a complete new installation? If so then you reinstall BP1? Hate to be a dummy, but I have never delt with download upgrades and modules before.

Thanks again.

LucentDreams

it should simply upgrade the current installation, and you sohuldn't have to reinstall BP1 (that woud likely mess things up) BP1 will get some upgraded features to BP1.1

Not 100% sure of the whole process for BP1 myself though I only tested the BP2 installers unfortunately. I'd recommend contacting maxon support if your having anymore troubles.

Thanks Kai,
I will double check with Maxon and post what finally works out
in case someone else is having a similar problem.

Thanks again!..........Great forum

To Kai and all,
Installation of new C4d Updater was a breeze and I worried for nothing. Simply download from Maxon site into your Maxon hard drive file, expand and double click on expanded application file icon. Installer will open and install with same procedure as from a CD. Note: Original CD in CD drive is not required.

In my case, BodyPaint 1 now works with Cinema 4d 8.2.

Everything works!! Far Out!!
