I'm very new to skeleton, constrain and riggin', but i have no time to learn that quickely (already see in boris3d.de).

I have this lamp but i have no idea to how set it up.
What should i use? Please tell me the simplest way do achieve that.

If you want to bypass a lot of work, you can transform it by a simple "Set Driven Key".

I think the rest will be animated al lot easier when handled seperatly. With Bones for example.

Does the spring still have History. Because you could use it then.
You create A distance tool, and place the two locators at the same place as the springattachments. Then you parent the locators to the springattachments.
Now the distance tool gives you the lenght of the spring, even when animated. This you can use to update the springHistory, so the spring is automatticly streched out.

got it! But in this way i had to play the animation; the stuff not work like a rigged character! in other words: i may have to set driven key, the zRotate and the yScale of the spring (driven) with the ?value of the measure tool? a bit confusing me!!

i will give some experiment till night...

thanks a lot

I built the spring myself, and i can then show it to you !!
For building the spring i have use the script Spiral 2.0 that can be downloaded from Highend 3d

Maya version 5 is needed.

Well there is not much to it. I group the top pieces together and moved the pivot down to the bottom, the expressions make the legs follow rotations of the lamp and counter rotate the top parts and the bottom together, so that it moves naturally. If you still have problems send me the model and I will do it for you and email it back to you.

Hey I finished the lamp I will be sending it to you anytime now. I could not getthe springs to work for the legs. I thinck the geometry neds to be rebuilt. But other than that everything works fine. Also I forgot to ask you if the lamp would travel around the table. Its not rigged for anything else besides were it is right now but if you would like it can be done. But anyways its done I'm sending it to you as we speak.
