Well, I'm kind of split that one of the biggest additions is editing! I mean, it has its place to check the timing of juxtaposed shots, and that's great...
But I wish that a program that's an "orange" application, for example, wouldn't try to be a "bananna" application, because it can only be a second bannana... I want my Orange to be a better orange first... assuming I haven't lost everyone with this train of thought by now...
So, as far as orange features... expressions? Great addition... But what else that makes me want to go out and get version 3??? What are the new compositing features?
I'll go check discreet's Web site and see if there's more info there.

I agree with that incredibly well spoken infant. I feel that Combustion needs such a large amount of improvements as a compositor to even compete with the other SW based compositors (e.g. Digital Fusion, Shake, etc..), that the development team shouldn't be spending resources on anything else.

the biggest gripe for me is that i would love to see Combustion head away from the layer based compositing, and head FAST toward node city :) ... with new scripting and a more node based architecture, it could be very powerful, and extensible ... 'where was the C3 wishlist again...' :p

nothing about lînux mentioned. - man, this can't be their truth. if c3 won't be on linux i'll be pissed off hardly... - they'll have smoke6 on linux but not combustion3? i hope not.
c3 on linux now!

Interesting to see this bit in the fxguide article that we don't see on the discreet site: "improved RAM render tool". I wonder if it's a slight improvement since it's not even mentionned from discreet at the moment.
I loved C2 until I got DFX+...although I still use both but DFX+ is really growing on me! :)
I feel that C3 should have been a 2.5...no? :surprised

I've been using aftereffects5.5 a lot and I didn't go for combustion beacause it lacked dv support..
while testing the demo I did like the node approach of combustion (after has it only for navigation and not for editing)
1. how would you compare the new aftereffects 6 and combustion 3?
2. there is no timeframe for delivery on combustion...? after 6 is just out of the door

I'm glad they are continuing to support the Macintosh platform. On the Mac platform, though, Combustion 2.1 was not able to do background rendering. That big render window has to sit front and center the whole time. A real workflow killer.
I went with OS X in order to take advantage of nice, Unix-y multitasking. I sure hope Discreet took care of this issue, otherwise I'll pass on Combustion 3, even though it's a great product in other respects.

You know, that Edit mode is pretty nice.. I know demo's like that make things looks so fast etc.. but that is a useful feature.
The NLE side is very light, which is good.. it is a compositor, not an editor.. C3 looks kind of cool, but so does After FX 6..

I am still undecided...I didn't play with AE 6 much so far, I still prefer C2 but I find DFX+ much faster and it would be nice to see some speed gains in C3!
Cheers!
