I've recently graduated from the University of Central Florida with a bachelors in Computer Animation. Currently trying to get into the industry as a 3D Character Modeler and finding it difficult to find any entry level positions that require less than 1-2 years industry experience. Currently looking as I try to improve my skills from home between my 2 jobs :P

I was wondering if there are any great internships (doesn't matter the location) or post grad schooling that can further my knowledge and skills for the industry that may also help out with jobs after the program?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

jobs requesting 1 to 2 year experience are entry level jobs, its doesnt mean people without 1 yr cant apply. you wont find many if any lower than entry level type job postings because most places dont bother since theyre bombarded by students anyways.

apply to any entry level posting you can find.

Also, remember the most important thing is your demo reel. That's what they look at rather than experience or schooling. They want to see the caliber of your skill and make sure you focus on what you're best at. Don't try to do everything like lighting, texturing, etc. Don't bother with any sound since they usually watch them on mute. Again, showcase your strength cause if you try to showcase your weaknesses, they will show and the employers will pick at that. Good luck in your search!

Yeah I've heard of employers looking through Demo Reels muted and rather quickly, due to the high capacity of submissions. I've been taught to showcase my best works first as well. Wish I had days off from my jobs to focus more on my current work >.< Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated!

If you have time to go to grad school, then you have time to improve your reel on your own. To be honest, grad school will give you almost nothing but more debt and the possibility of teaching as a career. If you want to be in "the industry" (you don't say which industry), it's all about your reel. No job placement office is going to find a job for you. Look at the best reels on this site and match the quality of those and you'll have a shot.

If you have a rock solid reel and you have a grad degree on top of that, will give you an upper edge at most places, or almost all good jobs. This field is very competitive and you would want to be on the top.
