Hello Guys, My name is Maria

After my 2 years work experienced in Fashion photography and visual effect retouch career. I finally make a decision move my career from photography to VFX.

My BA is obtained from photography and fine art, then I came to London completed a MA based on contemporary design, (this course is not really good enough for industrial standard) as I worked in this field for 2 years. I think photography is too limited for further career development.

To be realistic, I won't think about become an Animation Character Designer (As my drawing skill is less competitive than those practitioners), But I feel confidence in post-production/ Special Visual Effects relevant job. (those lighting, contrast, texture knowledge are quite similar with photography/film making, which I am familiar with).

Now I am in the process of making a decision on which VFX course to apply with,
my requirement is simple, I need a Diploma lasted 1-2 years which concentrate on post production or Visual Effects for film/television/animation.

I dare not to say I am talented enough but I've obtained enough education about creativity, now I am hunger to find somewhere to boost my software knowledge of VFX field rather than academic degrees.

The Ideal course for me should located in Canada and accept International students. Actually I have applied the Ai
(The Art Institue of Vancouver )

And the Van Art (http://www.vanarts.com/programs/visual-effects)

Can not find out which one is more suitable for me.
And any of your guys know other place I can try, Pleae let me know

Thanks for reading my wordy test, :P

I have zero knowledge about the right courses/schools for vfx, but I was wondering if you were aware of an online place like Fxphd (www.fxphd.com) ?

Hello Maria and welcome to the site. I'll just get right to the point here and say that you being a former professional photographer, gives you a nice leg up in going into a 3D career. Some of the best 3D artists I've ever met were former photography professionals. You are coming in with knowledge of cameras (exposure settings, depth of field, angle of view, composition, etc.) and lighting skills (light boxes, contrast, shadows, color theory, etc.). All of which gives you a major advantage. Saying that, I have a decent list of 'good' CG schools in Canada.
