Hey guys, I thought I'd show off something I'm working on right now. I wanted to recreate the medallion that we all saw in the movie (well, it was the medallion and the other 801 coins!), so here's what I have so far! :D

trying to get some critiques for the contest eh?? ;)

looks good although it doesn't look like gold at all. modeling wise.. i'd think about softening up the hard edges you've got everywhere since gold is pretty soft and stamping methods werent so precise back in the day.

Hehe yeah, contest it is ;)!

You're the first person to say I've got hard edges! Everyone keeps saying the edges seem too soft lol...
I personally like the way the modeling turned out, but I'll give it a shot and see how it looks.

I'm horrible at texturing, so that's why it doesn't look like gold :surprised

I'll try and fix that :D

oh i LOVE hard edges myself.. but in an old worn out pirate coin that's a couple inches across.. that kind of detail would never exist that long ago on a gold coin especially. but since it's a fantasy pirate coin, it probably won't matter anyways. ;)

i just saw your reference on XSI Base.. that's definitely a hero coin ;) you're sticking close to reference so don't worry about my edges comments. give the gold presets a try by the way. then add dirtmap in there to dirty it up.

I'm with De8d, I like dirty things, peculiar dirty girls. :-) And put som work on the "back side", the side without the skull. Try to make it lowpoly so you can make a hole chest of them, like in the movie. And when your done with the coin you can start on the underwaterscen with all the skeletons. ;-) Keep up the good work, may the force be with you.

too bad there's no hard body dynamics in XSI or you could just toss them in if you make a chest..

how many polys is it now and at what subdiv level?

Thats when Dicreets Reactor (3ds plugin) comes into the picture, some bugs, but it works fine if you know how to handle it.
