View Full Version : Pose Library vs Shape Key Drivers
gribble 04-05-2010, 09:22 AM I may have the option on a small 3d animated tv series. The work I usually do is much shorter for pack shots on tvcs or inserts for dvd documentaries.
What is the preferred (or industry-standard) for controlling the majority of poses - using a pose library with blend shapes or using shape key drivers? I will be undertaking the project in Blender 2.5.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Could you perhaps elaborate on the two approaches that you are considering? Spell out each one in a paragraph or so ... bearing in mind that the audience might be coming from different tools (and/or different Blender versions).
It would also be helpful if you could elaborate at some length as to what you guess that this "small 3D animated TV series" might possibly require ... and also about the sort of work that you have been doing up to now. How do you anticipate that the requirements might be the same or different?

I am looking at producing 6 x 30 minute episodes in an animated series involving a maximum of 6 characters in a rural setting (a farm).
Whilst I am not looking for the super fine animation detail of Pixar or Dreamworks, I want more than just flapping jaws for speech.
Shape Keys
I thought these would be good for facial expressions and phonemes. They are driven by connected shapes in the HUD.
Pose Library
Again made for facial expressions but less setup time. They are driven by an internal library of pre-set actions. So select the frame then select the pose with auto keying on.
