Why can't anyone ever come up with a tablet PC For artists. I know of the Modbooks but those things are way too expensive. It makes no sense. I'd like to see something of a tablet PC created by a computer company that is meant for graphics artists. If anyone knows any that has current tech within let me know PLEASE. I just don't want to use a separate tablet anymore. I want something of an infinite sketchbook.

There are quite a lot available with Wacom tech (penabled) and have been for a number of years. Search the tech and hardware forum, I don't know what the current suggested models are, you'll find lots of recommendations, there are even youtube videos showing certain tablet PC's against Cintiq's...such as: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMUUDYiKEKA
It's worth mentioning that tablet PC pressure sensitivity is generally higher than the model in that video but it shows that it's not as important as many suggest.

I use a Fujitsu Tablet PC for in-house storyboard jobs, it works really really well. What is it about current Tablet PCs that you don't like, or don't find artist friendly?

The upcoming HP Slate will have pen digitiser support according to a document which was leaked on Engadget. Considering HP's other offerings in the tablet space, this might be a viable option, though the screen's resolution is rather low.

I want a tablet PC, so I don't have to keep using an external Wacom tablet. The other problem with the tablet(s) such as the Cintiq is that it costs a lot of money. More than what a lot of people have.

I've been looking on Ebay for used pen tablets and I saw some pretty good tablet enabled laptops for under £300, they are pretty old in terms of hardware (Core2duo 1.6Ghz, 2GB RAM) but some of them have really nice Wacom enabled screens with stylus's.

I'd say if you want a machine keep an eye out on Ebay, there is usually always something going on there.

Motion Computing makes some of the best slate tablets I've used. Great for sketching.

I owned a tablet for a while and IMO unless you have a lot of cash hanging around, wait until someone develops one with pressure sensitivity.

Awww... I would love this one, but with a graphics card that didn't suck giant elephant balls. And with more that 2 gigs of RAM.

Is there such a thing? :)

As much as I wouldn't want to spend so much money for one, looks like the only best option would be to go with a Modbook. They are interesting. Two options of getting one. if you have a Macbook (non-aluminum, and non unibody) you can get a conversion done, but if you can't you can always purchase one directly from these guys. As far as it looks this looks like the best alt so far to using an external tablet.

There are decent reviews available for both units if you do a search. People however seem to complain about the pens on both units, especially the first one, for different reasons.

So have you just completely missed all the posts so far discussing the Wacom penabled tablet PC's? Even a lot of the non-penabled tablet's are pressure sensitive, they've been around for years.

well the graphic card is not that an issue.. I wouldn't say that I'm able to play games on it but I can easily run 3DsMax , Maya event Unreal 3 beta engine without any flaws

I've been looking around at the tablets, and what tablets are coming out soon.

I saw this tablet, the ICD Gemini; http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/06/icds-tegra-2-powered-gemini-is-the-most-feature-complete-tablet/

I'm thinking that the future is looking pretty good for tablet machines, this machine has a 11.2" capacitive (or resistive, if you want) multi-touch screen, with an Nvidia Integra 2 chip, while it isn't a powerhouse, it does run Android, which is linux based and hence you could probably port over a few drawing applications, such as MyPaint (Which is really nice) and then there would probably be a few on the application store for it.

Anyway, Since Wacom tablets and all other tablets do pressure sensitivity via the pens nib and I believe that that data is sent via bluetooth (Right?) to the device, then this could work out for this tablet as it supports a USB port and normal PC peripherals (Bluetooth dongle etc).

You'd need a battery in the pen, but I've used tablets which have this setup and if it's done right it feels pretty nice to use.

EDIT: I've heard that the company is in talk with UK phone networks, as this device allows SMS and phone calls via 3G, and it's expected to have a retail price roughly the same as a low end Ipad. I hope this is true so much!! :buttrock:
