View Full Version : Still : Ruler Pen
ReSeT 09-08-2003, 10:37 AM Hi folks!
This time I modelled this Pen lying on my desk. I'm trying to make it as realistic as possible. The model is fine, but I think it is too clean an still looks like CG.
What do you suggest? What could make this little guy look more realistic, like a photo?
Does anyone hav some special techniques or tips?
Feel free to comment everything you don't like.

40 klicks and no responses, that's very disappointing. Yes I know, it's just an ordinary pen, but is it so uninteresting?

Your colors appear too flat. Also, the bump mapping on the pen is very blurry, this definately takes away from the reality of the image. The metal tip look too perfect; even polished metal has a slight grain to it. Adding some scuff or grime (i.e. fingerprints) would really help. The wood below the pencil is too general and too reflective. It's grain is extremely small in proportion to the pen, and it is too smooth. If you want photorealistic wood, you need to give it alot of character. Finally, add some slight environment mapping to your reflections to suggest that the pen is actually in a room.
I hope this helped, good luck!

Hey! I've just posted mine and now I see yours.
I would suggest you give the metal parts something to reflect.
... and also, take a look at mine:
