View Full Version : strange Motion Mixer
Jimstein 09-08-2003, 09:21 AM I have come across more strange ”features” in Lightwave. This time it is with motion mixer.
1. If you use it will take some minutes to shut down Layout afterwards or to load that scene again - way is it so? Anyone recognise this or is it only me? Irritating it is.
2. And way is motionclips with wight’s attached to sliders (Blackburns handpose tutorial) not updating the current frame? It is irritating not getting an interactive update! Does anyone know about a workaround/fix for this?

Haven't used MM for a while, as far as I can remember :
1 is because MM read and writes some MM motion files, so takes (very) little time when loading /saving scene. Just in case I always keep the original scene file without any MM.
2 Not sure, haven't tried Mikes RB Pose mixer, do you have Auto key On + Interractive Update ?

1 As far as I remember, you can set which channel is used by MM
ie rotation, position etc ... So to speed up things I would check that every selected components are the animated ones, and remove the unnecessary objects and channels...
Should speed up...
2 Ask Mike :)

Can't say, it's just me. The first time I saw a scene with MM, I told myself would be prudent to save a "without MM" version.
...superstition...

I am not sure I understand what you mean - you might be sying I should bake the motions to layout to one version of the scene before quitting layout? That don’t make much sense. What is the point with MM if you dont save it WITH the scene.
1. How do I select what channel should be saved... I havent touched a thing that has to do with channels. With in MM? I will look into it. Interesting ide.
Edit: Btw I know your work. Don't you often use MM in them?

All I was saying about a "without MM" scene , was just before applying MM, I save my scene Scene_001.lws. Then, what I do once the scene involve MM, I save it as Scene_001_MM.lws
No big deal...
The edit channel thing is called "Channel Editor" in MM panel.
There you select the Motion intem (Bones/effectors/etc...) and the channels (Pos, rot, etc)
Well I used it on some of my prods, not every prods. I found it quite useful for looping "walk/run" sequences, and then blend them with a "jump" sequence. Everything is pretty easy to "time-up" then....
