I think for you apparent poly count you have too much going on in the corners of the mouth. Also you should pull the lips out more their kinda flat and the transition from the head to the lips is really noticable. Give us more info on your model, Poly count, realistic or stylized etc.

904 polys - lowrez
14336 - 2x meshsmooth

hmm still need more information like are you going for a low poly model or high? Also if you could include a front, side, and back shot of the head that would help in critics. Also what type of character, ethnic descent, realistic or stylized, etc would help as well. I think in regards to the lips you should grab the polys inside of the thin band surrounding them and pull out to give them a pucker. Also the two polys right below the nose that form the bow in the lip you could bevel in to form a philtrum adding a little bit of detail.

thanks for the post. will work on those probs when I get home from work so thanks. I will post screenshot with the reference images used, and in the end I am going for photoreal style head, but this is my first.

Here is just a not pretty render :

By your pictures I think the face should be broader. Also you should work on adding definition to the nose area, i.e. make some nostrils. In your philtrim you should not make it so recesssed. I'd actually make another bevel within the first. you want the transition to be subtle and very gradual. the ear looks a little too thin on the side connecting to the head add a little more width to it. Also, you should add more polys so as to avoid having to go to 2 levels of mesh smooth. I might be wrong but I was always told that its best to avoid having too many smoothing levels. Keep it up though!

thanx a lot for the crits! Will work on all those things and change some things I noticed about the lip and the "lines" from the sides of the nose to the bottom of the mouth. I've been looking at other head wireframes and I think I've got the problem with the lips as well. Thanks again.
