Heres a real interesting plugin Ive been playing with and getting excellent results: http://home.nordnet.fr/~phoneikon/XTool_Main_001.htm
You can select and manipulate points and keyframe them singly or in groups. You can also bend an arm for example and then sculpt the points into the precise shape you want.
The points show up in the graph editor and can see and be seen by expressions and motion modifiers. This means the points can be tied via Cycler to the rotation of a bone so that the points move to their sculpted position based on the rotation of the bone.
The other nice thing is that Xtool also works with Motion Designer. For example if the cloth is colliding with a collsion object and some of the geometry is poking thru, you can simply grab the points and move them. The points can be moved and offset but the result is additive with the MD created displacements. Its very cool! :)
Fasty - Hey, thanks for the news on the latest version. I love this plugin!
SplineGod - This one sounds pretty neat also. Going there now. Thanks

thanks will give this a try
Hey Larry,
Is that anything like the point editing functionality in LW8? I seem to remember that the implementation in LW8 didn't interpolate between keys.
Just curious.

Hey Zaam,
There was a lot to see at Sig and I dont remember many details about the point level editing in layout other then it could be done. As far as whether the points could be seen in the graph editor, grouped, parented to other things...I dont know.
Xtools allows all the things I just mentioned. Theres so many possibilities with this plugin such as I mentioned like sculpting the exact shape of a joint and using Cycler to tie the position of those points to a rotational channel on a bone.
I had a scene setup with motion designer where I have the MDD dynamics going on AND animating some morphs via the MDmetaplug_morph and morph mixer as well as pulling the points around with Xtool. It all worked seamlessly together and was additive.
I could also see using this in conjunction with front projection mapping to adjust points to better fit the projection map. :)
