Cant help to notice the Antz-Bugs Life analogy to Early Bloomer-Finding Nemo... but animation is animation... its all good. Looks impressive!

Hmmm. I hate to be a downer.....but Im not very impressed thus far. Maybe this is VERY early shots of the characters, but I expect more from a big studio like SPimageworks.

Multicolored tadpoles? At least in A Bug's Life they were all the same color.

Maybe the story and animation are good.....but this doesnt look like it is coming from the same studio who birthed the Chubb Chubbs.

If the story and animation are good then it can't be the same studio who birthed Chubb Chubbs...

(ba-dum-boom!)

Seriously, I hope this is better - I have to say, I feel the 'aquatic' angle seems to be appearing a lot at the moment, with Nemo, Sprout and PDI's next film to boot...

Considering how it was conceived early on I thought it was well done and more proof that pre-planning is key even on small projects.

Side Note: Lil dragon wassup? Peeped the new picture LOL, are you moon lighting as a "Human Model" these days :scream:

Hey guys,

I had the opportunity to see it when Kevin came to Dallas and showed it to the Short Guys (http://www.abunchofshortguys.com).

I think it was really well done. It was witty and cute. And Kevin and his team were having to do it on the side during the little free time they had from the major stuff they were working on. So it was truly a labor of love for those guys.

It looks simple, but I think you will enjoy it once you see the animation. :)

The animation sells this short film, you'll have to wait until it's circuit run to see the short. If you were at 3DFestival or SIGGRAPH'S Electronic theatre you would've seen it. The DVD I have has some outtakes as well, very very nice short and definitely a boost over the chubbchubbs imo.

Happy peeps are liking it, but sorry about the lack of animation, rules are rules.

Fanboyism down a bit, it's not competiting with Finding Nemo or any other film. I hope you read the article because it tells you it was just an in-house exercise for Imageworks, such as the ChubbChubbs, Kevin and Imageworks have no future plans to make this a movie, those who are comparing have to remember these are just exercises for Sony's new division, nothing more.

Thx for your comments.

Great article. Didn't this short play in front of "Daddy Daycare"? Does anyone know if the short will be included on the DVD for "Daddy Daycare"? I'm anxious to see these pollywogs in motion!!

Hi guys, Even though I, myself, didnt work on this one, I have heard alot of stories about its creation etc and I....and maybe i can give you some insight on its production. (Dont quote me on this though) smile

This short was created because solely beacause there was a slight "hiccup" here at Imageworks. Hiccup, meaning some down time between productions. One of Imageworks employees Kevin Johnson pitched the ideas to some Imageworks reps and the thought this would be a great filler for their schedule. Hence, limited resources and time were given to this short's production team.

This short is cute. Its nothing but cute. It has a VERY simple & not complicated story and its targeted for children audiences. It has absolutely NO adult humor, or inuendo, it is very simple and"cute".

The depth of this movie is very shallow (no pun intended) , and it definitely can not be compared to Chubs Chubs beacuse of its production schedule, and the manpower of its creation.

In the article they make it sound like its a very dramatic story.

Example "Early Bloomer" is a comical coming-of-age tale"

Its not. Its a One gag short film. Its look and style was meant to be very simple and very appealing to children.

agreenster stated,

"Multicolored tadpoles? At least in A Bug's Life they were all the same color. "

I think agreenster has some creativity and conformality issues. Heaven forbid we use mutiply colors.
Heaven forbid we think outside the realm of Pixar.
Dude, and for your information the ants in Pixar varied from 6-10 different colors. There shades and values were all quite different!

Cheers all. Feel free to ask me any questions and i will do my best to find out the answers.

Really hmm, I was wondering why Jerry gave us a DVD with just Early Bloomer on it, I thought it was PR material, that'll explain it :D that's very good to know.

Is it available for purchase online, or should we check the local video/book stores?

There were passing out some Early Bloomer DVDs at Siggraph... along with some Chubb Chubb DVDs.

I found it (as someone said earlier) 'cute'... and that's really about it. The little ones loved it though. But still... I'd be willin to part with it if anyone's really that curious about it.
