"The next generation of consoles could shake up the games industry, with a game costing tens of millions of dollars to develop, say experts.
Making a title for the successors to the PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube could run into $20 or $30 million, game developers meeting in London were told.

But the price of a game in the shops is likely to stay the same.

It could mean many smaller software firms going bust or joining forces with other small companies. "

Game prices have never gone up, they are even sometimes lower than ever, especially the big hits that are re-released a year later at 25/30$.

I think Final Fantasy X cost Squaresoft 40 million. The game sold at the same price as FF are usually sold. And companies arent dumb, it happens very rarely that a game that cost a lot to make doesn't make its money's worth.

Now I´m paying 60-70 for the PS2 titles.

I always payed $49.99 for any new game since the SNES day's. SO i don't think they went up.

Eliseau: 60 to 70 is an abnormal price. You are probably purchasing from a store that is unable to find a good shipper. I live in Canada and here games cost usually 69 to 79, not more, but I found Final Fantasy 10 at 100$+taxes, when it was sold at Futureshop for something between 69 and 79 or so. And that is Canadian money, which means in the US it was at most 49, and FF is usually expensive compared to other games.

Nah, game prices aren't higher, even the consoles sell for troughly the same price as the Super Ninentdo, and their prices lower much quicker.
