this guy's been collecting dust on my hard disk for a couple of years now. I originally intended for him to be entirely expression-driven. Alas, making him fully automatic proved harder than I first thought.

well, I thought I'd wake him up and make him strut his stuff. Let him flex his keyframe muscles a bit.

any and all crits [read harsh crits] are welcome.

enjoy (only 332k) :D

hi sherban
well i like it, very much! :) very good/fantasy concept (as you
know i like fantasy works much!)
but a little thing:
the structure of legs is not good enough to be practical,
need more walking/moving mechanism.
anyway the anim has a good timing/pacing...add some
exagration to...hmmm...to something! :)
cheers

Cool, very likable, I can see a personality in him.

thx guys,

3DJoy: Ahlan Ahlan.

Ila: I agree. I'll try to exaggerate him some. Soon as I figure out what.
I should however state that the design is not mine (my bad for not mentioning this  ). I modeled this a few years ago based on a gif I found on the web. Its of an AD&D creature called a modoron.
Maybe I'll add some thingee to the knees to give him some volume.

ps. I think you should model some of your character illustrations. They look like they should be 3d.

salute sherban, but which ones?...
well, now i'm going to draw, model & animate a new beast/creature
for a game, it's lowpoly & will be done in 3dsmax, i'll put the
new "WIP: MAN-RAT creature for fps game" soon! :)

Hi Sherban.

Thats looking pretty good to my untrained eye. Especially the bits hanging off the side of the head, they have nice movement.

Do you think he would be able to balance on one foot? Or doesn't that sort of thing matter since its cartoonish?

Maybe you should make the bot close his eyes and slowly open them when that fly thing comes in... just to exaggerate his actions/emotions

Sherban, nice little walk you have there. Couple of things that I noticed.

The walk seems a little odd because he's perfectly balancing on those legs. Try rotating the body a little to give a bit more of a roll to his gait. Keeping the center of gravity over the foot. (I'm not sure if that made sense)

I like the eye, but his double blink thing is a bit distracting. Try using a slower single blink to help accent him following of the fairy (?)

Finially the morphs for the lips seem a bit sluggish and slow. Try getting a bit more snap between the mouth positions.

Well, I hope that helps if it makes any sense. I've been up too long.

All in all a pretty good start.

hi all,
thx for the comments.

Taoizm:
I've fixed some of the weight issues. Can't really tell if enough.

Have yet to fix the morph targets. ( thx Taoizm). next on my to do list. Haven't even thought in that direction.

About the rapid blinking. I'd like to give him a clunky feel. Like he can fall apart at any moment. I think the nervous blinking adds to that. (if anyone thinks I still should change it - drop me a line)

Krugar:
Will also add a blink when fly flies by. How didn't I think of that?
"Salvatore Stupido" *beats self on head*

Ila Solomon:
there's a whole row of thumbnails on your site which have no links. Those look promising.

That's it for this installment. Here's the clip (http://www.bgu.ac.il/~sherban/movies/Walk_9.avi).

Enjoy :D

Sherban its look wery cute ;)
I agree with ila_solomon - the legs (knees) need some attention - maybe a bigger joints.
