View Full Version : Morph targets-->Vertex Animation
Cynical_Saint 09-07-2003, 08:37 PM Hello all. I have created a model with morph targets. Then I created autokey animation with every possible morph target animation.
Now I need to colapse this into a mesh so that the animation is controlling the vertices, not the % of morph on each target.
Can anyone help?

if i understand you correctly... you have mesh animated with morph modifier and you want colapsed mesh with animation controller for each vertex... if that's the case... go to www.scriptspot.com and download script that does that... i'm not sure about name... just put "bake vertex animation" in search... you'll get the idea... ;)
this works perfectly... but it will generate you much larger file...
hope this helps....

Thanks for the help. However I am on Max 5 and the script causes an error. :(
Any other ideas?
To clarify. I have a mesh with 5 diff morph targets. Between these morph targets there are a total of 15 different compbinations each one has been animated to a single frame. However the game exporter I am using will only work on a collapsed mesh. So now that I have set up my 15 frames, when I move the slider, I need it to change the positions of the vertices, not change the values on the morph modifier.
Does that make sense?

yeah... it makes sense...
i needed it for game export also... just note... if you have lots of polys you will probably experience performance drop... both in cpu usage and memory costs...
back to script... i use max5 also... it should work... i now remembered i experienced similar problems... then i read that that script uses additional functions that don't exist in maxscript standard function library... you probably need to install those functions... i think it's not explained in .txt file that comes with zip archive.... you have to read it on site...
let me know if this helps...
cheers

Rcvd your files, after some fumbling around with where to put the scripts and plugins, I finally got it to work.
Works like a charm. Thanks for the help bud. :)
