View Full Version : recommended courses/degrees in arch&viz?
Younha 03-30-2010, 02:39 AM Hey guys, just need some advice. I'm currently studying 3d animation at college and have found myself more geared into architectural visualization. could anyone tell me what universities or college courses (in the UK) are best for this area?

I interned for an archvis shop once, they'd prefer it if you had some background in architecture and be proficient in Max and Autocad. A typical day would start with my boss giving me floor plans from autocad, or sometimes floor plans that's on paper, and telling me to rebuild it in 3d. I'd take the curves laid out on Acad and import it in Max and start with that. You only need to know some basic math to figure a few things out...nothing complicated, since everything else is on the the floor plan. IMHO, if you have a reel that shows skills related to architecture then you're already halfway there. As specific as they wanted me to follow a floor plan, if the rendering of a room felt too cramped, they'd ask me to tweak it a bit to make it more appealing. So basically, you need to know how to read a floor plan, use studioMax and autocad, and be good at prop modeling and texturing.
As far as courses and universities I wouldn't know of any, but I hope my post would help you narrow things down better. Good luck!
