I am a very beginner in 3d.
I've already posted this in the critique forum, but I thought it would be a good idea to post it here too. After all I'm using cin 4d. These are shots from the first scene.

I'm currently trying to get a more rude look to the howl film(I dont know how to express in english, but it has to look "körniger", maybe some german people can translate). Ive tried the stochastisch mode in the radiosity prefs. but it takes too long and I dont seem to find the right settings.

Here is a detail from the second scene
Its going to be a long corridor from a station. This is a lcd panel with the timetable (taken from ZH HB Switzerland).

please comment, Thanks in advance

"Körniger" would be like more grainy? Sort of... Try using DirtyNuts - yoou could bake it as well to get faster renders...

for a more grainy look (assuming that that is what you're after), you can simply use the shaderplugin dirtyNUTS. Put it in the diffuse channel or any other channel you would like to influence. You can also combine it with, for instance, a subtle bumpmap on the walls.

Download dirtyNUTS at plugincafe - www.plugincafe.com

A bit off topic: what software did you use for you model?

Cheers,
BaRa

I meant "the whole film" sorry bäd inglisch :)

hmm, grainy yeah I think thats the word I was looking for. So I have to apply this dirty nuts thingy on every texture an in the diffuse chanel, right? Im gonna try it out right now, tanks.

Modelling and rendering all done in cin4D
8.1

I want to put the people as animated aplha text on a wall and move the wal as the people move. Is this even possible or are there any better ideas.
Ive chosen not to model anim. the people in 3d because of the sheer amount of time it takes since Im doing this more or less on my own, except the music I found someone who has the skills (who knew you can profit just by going to a concert :).

Hi bonanza,
yes körnig translates to grainy. Usualy you should try to use a video editing software to create the effect in post. I don't think it's worth the effort to recreate a typical post effect with rendering. You might like to ask on an After Effects or Combustion forum on how to create those effects.
After Effects oder Combustion. Im übrigen gibt es auch ein sehr aktives deutschsprachiges CINEMA Forum
C4D-Treff (http://www.c4d-treff.de)

Ich hoffe das hilft

Hi,

Final Cut can do it, but you can do similar things with Quicktime Pro (US $30).

Maybe it's possible to purchase more subtle grain effect plugins for Final Cut...

Ah, I see theres a differnce in price :)

I'm doing this project on a friends comp. His an architect and was kind enough to give me the place and infrastructure. He even bought cin4d and is willing to buy finalcutpro4. So in the end its not my decision.

thanks for all your support, great forum

Hi there,
Final Cut is an awsome pro cut soft, but if you're after post-prod effects you should definitely look forward After Effects or Combustion as said before in that post. Final Cut hasn't what you're looking for easely unless you're really mastering it.

The difference in price is one thing but the real thing is what do you want to do (editing, post-prod, compositing, color-correction...)

Try some demos first; that would make up your mind.

I know Squidinc has a nice grain effect on his last pictures.
Maybe he could give some tips.

I think for what I want to do after effects and co. are overkill for me. After all I have to cut the whole thing and add music and and and...

Final cut is what im going for. If it really cant do this post effect Ihave to add it in c4d. I dont think I have the time to learn another programm from scratch let alone such killer apps like ae and comb. Im already behind my time plan for this project. Thanks bobtronic I will go and ask Squidinc.

by the way
Im not sure but isnt combustion and after effects in another price class than final cut pro?

It is some kind of email within CGtalk. Can you see the little
field "Private Mail" under each post ? By clicking it you
can send the poster a PM.

the second scene, at least one part of it. Still needs some work. I managed to get grainy look by using a bump in the sla shaders (still experementing). I will change light reflections on the wall in the back. I added glue to the lights but it doesnt look right, so I decided not to use it, i hope they still look like lights. scratches on the floor also seem strange and theres a texture lacking on the lcd panel.

If you have any critique, please feel free to comment.

Combustion is only £780 now, whereas FCP is £999.

Combustion is really good as well. It has all the filme grains you could want, you can add grain in FCP too.
