View Full Version : ASUS MARS/2DI/4GB3/A 4GB Dual GTX285
meleseDESIGN 03-28-2010, 07:35 PM Hi fellows!
I'm thinking to buy this Dual GTX 285 card from ebay.
Does anybody heard of this card or had some experiences with it allready?
Knowing the price is crazy high, but for a Dual GTX 285 i would do it.

I know nothing about the card, but reviews for it were pretty easy to find.

$1200 for the Mars is a waste of money unless you're a benchmark queen and want to hold records. Real life performance will be next to nothing in 3D work given no apps really support SLI so you'll just be tapping a single 2gb GTX285 core which you could go buy for 1/4 the price of this :)

Hi guys, thanks for your inputs.
You´re absulutely right, the price this ebayer want from you is very high.
But it´s a limited edition and only 1000 piece was made. Now i'm one of those 1000, i bought one from other seller for 514€ ($689/£462): http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200454434629
I wanted to upgrade from my current GTX 260 896MB to the GTX 285 2048MB anyways to play a bit with bigger scenes in Octane, but in Germany you can´t buy this one for under 350€ ($469/£314).
This Dual GTX 285 has even a special water cooler, what is quiet nice, cos I use a water cooling system for my CPU's allready. I thought, if I buy one for 350€ why not two for this nice price. My motherboard has only one PCI-E x16 2.0 socket, so if SLI becomes usefull i'm prepared without the need to upgrade the board.
What you think about the new price I paid?

You realise no apps use dual gfx cards for their display right?
He could use them both in Octane though.

Yes, I noticed most apps aren´t designed to use Dual GPU's.
But i'm really looking forward and since Octane (you name it frog) is using the GPU I thought it would be usefull for this app.
What about 3D Coat and Mudbox. I heard they use the GPU as well.
Do they support Dual GPU's as well?
And what about new CS5 apps like After Effects, Premiere and Photoshop.
I read they make use of the GPU too and have some hugh performance enhancement through GPU's.
