"We felt British films were being squeezed out of the cinemas by big American blockbusters, and the films I like watching and making are little small niche films that have no place in the cinema," he said.

A new film from the writer of the Full Monty, Simon Beaufoy, will today become the first film to be launched on the Internet.

Just something to think about. ;)

Indeed Internet style:

"Due to overwhelming demand, this site is temporarily unavailable."

Why do people always underestimate the demand and the costs when they think up such schemes for distributing online films?

But at least their heart is in the right place and hopefully they won't go broke after upgrading their capacity to sustain the current demand. I will definately check out the film. :)

Tho', thanks to my evil black self, I have to remark that while they want to avoid one type of monopolistic behaviour by the evil American companies that make evil deals to promote their evil blockbusters, they still chose Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 as a distribution format - ironic, ain't it?

Also, if I am not mistaken, this is not the first film launched online, just the first one with simultaneous online and cinema premiere, or not?

And on third thought, why was it already released on DVD from Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00009L4U5/ref=ase_internetmoviedat/102-2490165-9516167?v=glance&s=dvd)?

Cheers,
Andrei

P.S.: And it's not a short film, is it? On IMDB it says it's 94 minutes...

Indeed, there have been many films released on the internet over the last four years. Bullshit catching news honestly.
