My system, all of a sudden, has been randomly restarting.

First I reported a problem with my system being slow during simple tasks. That then stemmed to my system's display crashing over and over. Turned out it was the video card and since upgraded to a GeForce 250. My system has been running extremely great. No problems until a couple of yesterday. I've installed Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects. Now it randomly restarts itself during times of a heavy load to being idle with no programs running. I've checked temps and everything seems to be ok ( Below 50C on a medium to heavy load) Obviously I haven't been able to see the exact temp right before it crashes but I doubt it would spike without doing anything more than what I've been doing. Usually it just restarts but this last time a blue screen popped up. I didn't take note of the error code but I will if it happens again. My system specs are:

Windows 7 64
Lian Li V1000+ Case
Biostar T5XE CFX-SLI Motherboard
Intel i7 860 @ 2.8Ghz Stock
Stock Heatsink & Fan since I don't OC
4G DDR3 1600 (Running at 1333) Patriot Memory
BFG GeForce 250 1G
Sony DVD Dual Layer Burner
74G Raptor HD
750G Seagate Barracuda HD
Thermaltake W0101RU 550W Power Supply

Edit: It's a fresh install of Windows. The Motherboard, CPU, Memory and Video Card are brand new. The Seagate HD is about 1 year old. All the rest of the components are about 5 years old.

Download RealTemp (http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/) if you want to find out your temperatures. I normally run through a bunch of things if I encounter any problems. I would reinstall the graphics card drivers making sure no old drivers are lying around. I would also run memtest since it's new memory. Then I would make sure everything is up to date.

The symptoms you describe are almost always caused by the power supply. Either insufficient wattage or inconsistent performance. If you have another power supply then I'd try that out. Once in a while hardware driver bugs or failing hardware can cause a problem, but if that's the case Windows will warn you when the system reboots, like "A device driver has crashed, click here to search for a solution" or whatever it says. Cheers!

The Blue screen popped up again and it says:

End_of_NT_Evaluation_Period

I am using a tral version of Windows 7 to see if I like it or not but I still have 8 days left on the trial. Is this the reason for the automatic restarts?

I suppose that might be the reason then.

I think your power supply is a little underpowered for your setup but if your blue screens are every 2 hours then Microsoft might be sending you a little reminder.

Its not the power supply if a blue screen says the Windows trial is up. :curious:

Yeah...if that bug is the problem, I think it's a pretty dumb way to persuade people into your product. I'm trying out Windows 7 to see if it's more efficient than Windows XP. I STILL have about 7 days left on the trial period and it's making my computer crash every hour. Way to go Microsoft!

Its well documented what happens to Windows when the trial expires so it shouldn't be a surprise.

Not like you paid for the trial, so you can't really complain. Ultimately if you don't like it then don't use it and don't buy it. Over the last few years I've found Linux (specifically Ubuntu) to be a perfect match for my computing needs, maybe you should give it a try. :buttrock:

Yeah haha I am complaining because I really want to like Windows 7. XP 32 Bit served me well and I'm pretty sure if I buy Windows 7 it would be fine as I'm using Windows 7 64 Bit at work and it's been great.

I have been thinking of switching over to Ubuntu. I should look more into that!

I got windows 7 64bit and very pleased by the OS.... there are few little details that I had to fix, like the wacom click...or other stupid stuff, but overall I'm very happy with the performances.... XP is been one of the best, but I feel 7 will be better....
