Hya.

I have created a CG animation of a bird flying through the sky.
The bird has a mask. The background is just solid white, for the sky. What im wanting is to do is bleed the sky into the bird, as it would do it real life...and get rid of the hard edges that make the bird look CG.

I thought the best way around this is to simply blur the birds alpha channel, so i could then easily bleed its edges into the white sky behind.

How can i select the alpha of the bird to blur in AE? This sound ok?
Any ideas?

Cheers,
Dan.

channel blur or you can duplicate you footage(bird with alpha channel) and add blur, then use it as track matte.
hope this helps...am not sure if i have understand your problem.

This is how you properly bloom light around an object...

Duplicate you foreground twice, and your background once. It should be ordered, from top to bottom:Fore, Fore, Back, Fore, Back

Channel blur the alpha on the top foreground layer, and then set the track matte of the 2nd foreground to "Alpha Inverted Map". Precomp these 2 layers

Set the track matte of the higher background to "Alpha Matte", set it's transfer mode to "Add", and blur it by the same amount as you blured the initial alpha.

You can tune the opacity on the higher of the background layers...
