Title: Max and Milton
Name: Jason Baldwin
Country: United States
Software: Maya, Photoshop
I made this image a while back, but am finally getting around to submitting it.
Max and Milton are sort of a play on Goofus and Gallant. Exact opposites- one a teacher's pet, the other a box-wine swilling reprobate.

Great characters! Costumes are really good. Max? the skinny guy- his right sleeve looks like the texture is a projection. I mean diagonal as apposed to the left which is horizontal.
!??? does that make sense?
These forums are kinda bunk nowadays.
I just looked at your webpage! wow that was a totally random coincidence. sorry, didn't mean nothin by it.

joel3d: Good eye. A lot of the textures in this image were done in post. We were trying several different patterns to find ones that would work. I wouldn't say the forum is bunk. The quality has just skyrocketed in the last few years! My website, on the other hand, is indeed bunk :)

Thanks again for all the great feedback! Its encouraging to hear the personality is coming through the characters.
Kravit: Good call on the background. Its seeming a bit flat because its a 2d image with blur. I'll work on getting better dimension next time.
PascalR: I modeled the hair then Joe painted 2d hair over the geometry.
Robert: You're totally right on the hand comment. I just never managed to fix it :(

Making such simplistic models for still image without texturing after 8 years training would drive me in pain.
Nobody is good enough when they start out, dont take it as a personal attack, just a friendly chat.

Once again, thank you for all the kind comments and feedback!
lipuster: Unfortunately I have to agree with your portfolio comment. That is simply because I don't always have Joe Beckley polishing up my work.
LSPhoung: the background is different because it's a still. Good observation.
Sean, Charles: You guys are epic. Remind me to buy you a soda at lunch.
Altman: I love you, but I may distance myself from you. Rumor has it someone at apple wants to speak with you... ;)
Yeminius, AndyH: Yeah, poses have always been difficult for me, specifically hands. I always want to make them overdramatic for some reason.

Amazing. India. Something like that happened to Chris Jones' The Passenger animation: a guy was caught bragging about submitting Chris' film as his own in a animation festival. Still blows me away in an online, global community. It seems enough people contacted the guy and he pulled his claim.

Well, I certainly don't blame India itself, but some people are certainly taking advantage of the distance. I've emailed them, and notified the other artists who's images they've used. Hopefully they'll do the right thing.
Edit- And they have. They sent an apology and removed the image.

The differences between the fat and slim boys make the picture very funny. I like details of their clothes and also the green tone of the background. If I were you I will do the lips of the slim boy more detailed and maybe his right hand will need just more anatomy job too.
