What's the best approach to make a realistic looking grassy field with grass moving in the wind. I tried sasquatch but I don't get the wanted result.

Sasquatch comes with lots of demo scene files and with LOTS of tweaking it works VERY well. There is also HD Instance available at Happy Digital and I believe they have a tutorial on their site showing grassy fields - though I'm not sure about the animation. Like with ALL things CG, there is not a "make this perfect" button and it requires lots of trial and error.

There are also tutorials and suggestions on how to make realistic grass available on the Newtek forums. Lots of helpful people there!

A plug-in from Polas.net called Grass Generator can be animated using a weight map. It can be used with windows or Mac OSX. It is only available for LW 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0. I use the Smoke and Fire Generator which is only up to 8.0 but I use it with 9.6 and it works fine.

i am sure you could use fiberfx for this..

would take some tweaking but no pain no gain !

good luck

has anyone seen the Grass in Astroboy the movie... near the end of the movie, where astroboy was lying on a grass field... and the breeze making it sway.... there was several shots of that area.... i love the grass in that.... anyone have any idea on how to achieve that ???

The astroboy grass seems to be an in-house system.

HD Instance is the route I would take. It renders alot faster than Vue...

I have done this with the full version of SAS by using multiple instances of SAS on the same ground plane. This way you can vary the length, width and color of several layers of grass and to get a more natural look. Plus SAS reacts very well to wind.

I have never used the Fiber FX plugin, I suppose you could try that also.
