I've got a character setup going. I've keyframed the joints. I've got my character selected in that little menu at the bottom right. I'm now trying to make a clip of the keyframes I've just done. The menu opens okay, I click on apply and Maya decides to remove the keyframes out of the graph editor and DOESNT MAKE A CLIP!!!!!!!

this is really hackin me off now. I'm fairly clued up with NLA in Maya but cant understand why its doing this to me now as I've never had a problem.

PLEASE HELP ME! I DONT WANT TO COME BACK IN ON MONDAY AND STILL BE STUCK WITH THIS CRAP! :(

I'm currently getting this message:

// Error: file: C:/Program Files/AliasWavefront/Maya4.5/scripts/others/doCreateClipArgList.mel line 167: Cannot convert data of type string to type string[]. //

well, I've tried to re create your situation here (very simplistically of course). I've created a bone chain, attached an ik handle, and animated the ik handle. then I put the ik handle's attributes in a character set. now with the character set highlighted in the character set menu (bottom right of the gui), and not necesarilly selected in the outliner (in fact in this instance I did not select the character set in the outliner), I used the create clip command with these settings (see the attached image). the result was that my key frames stayed in the timeline, and a clip appeared in the character clips tab in the visor, and when i dragged that clip into the trax editor and put it after the existing keys already in the timeline, the animation happened twice, just as it should have.

I don't know if its a settings issue of yours in the create clip options window or what. I'm using maya 4.5, so if you're using maya 5, then it may be a bug - I don't pretend to know a whole lot about that.

I don't know if I'm being any help, but good luck!!

yeah I'm aware of that option SithWarLord but that isn't causing me any bother - maya refrains from creating a clip whether I choose that option or not! :-/
It basically acts as if everythings ok but doesn't create the clip for me. I'm totally confused by it as everythings been working fine whilst I've been using it solid for the past 2months

cheers for replying!

Make sure you check your options box for the create clip command. You might have the option set for "Put Clip in Visor only". Go into the options box and reset the settings to the defaults.

Other than that, Maya 4.5 should not have any problems creating clips. I haven't run into a problem.

it doesn't matter what option I pick Maya simply wont create the clip.

I've decided to simply try and create the Character set again and see if that works. But I'm not about to lose any sleep over it till monday. In other words - bollx - I'm off the pub - theres girls n things there.

cheers

Anyone solved this problem already? We've had this problem here a few times and we can't find out why this is happening. It just refuses to create a clip all of a sudden. We have the same 'Can't convert to string....' error line in the script editor.
