CGTalk - Punching a Hole

Hey all,
Recently I started to use Maya to make some 3d models, but a few days ago i got an assignment from school. Well that isnt the problem the problem is that in my 3d model I can get a hole in my polygon... :S
Could you guys help me? It sounds really easy, make a polygon cube and punch a circulair hole in it. But I cant make my hole circulair :cry:

Do it the ugly way with a cylinder intersecting the wall and use a boolean operation, then clean up wall geometry after.
