Hi there

Does anyone know a good solution for getting SolidWorks 2003 files into Max?
Will Max import the model with any textures and will the mesh be clean or require a cleanup?

Thanks in advance :)

This is how I do it.

1. Save in Solidworks to STL -format.

2. Import STL File to Max. Leave all other stl import params to defaults but change welding method to quick weld as it's much faster.

3. Alter smoothing of your meshes. You can do it in editable mesh polygon level, or add Smooth-modifier and play with smoothing angle.
This has to be done many times because mesh of imported model might not be very clean and smoothing between faces can produce weird highlights when rendered. But you don't have to alter actual mesh.

STL file does contain only 3d data and therefore it does not include your Solidworks textures. But materials are anyway best to do in Max.

Note: IGES file format will work also somehow, but as Max handles NURBS models so bad, I'm not very fond of it.

Thanks, I will give that a try.
I think I will have to experiment with Rhino as well, but this seems like a good solution.
