Hey everyone,

My name is Shant and I am 20 years old living in Los Angeles, CA. I am currently a FIDM student majoring in Graphic Design. I am graduating with my AA in Graphic Design this June. I am writing to you all because I want to be a concept artist and don't know which school to attend. I have learned photoshop for 2 years now but my overall goal in life is to be a video game/concept artist. I will have my portfolio ready during my last quarter at school which is in about 1-2 months. I am inspired by people like Craig Mullins. I love video game art, renders, comic book covers and matte paintings. Do you guys recommend any good schools for me to continue my education and achieve my dreams.

I appreciate any input and feedback

Hey Shant,

I am fairly clueless as to schools for concept art, but may try doing a search of the forums? Conceptart.org might be a good place to ask, some amazing concept artists are over that way (not that they're not here)..but seems pretty focused on what you're interested in.

Good luck!

How good are you at drawing and painting?

thanks for the responses guys. I have been a member of conceptart.org for about 6 months and I posted there as well but I haven't gotten any responses. That is why I have chosen to come here for some help. To answer your question Sanjay I can paint image res ups from low to high quality but I don't know how to actually paint concept art in photoshop. I was hoping if you can recommend any schools for me that will teach me how to paint.

Thanks again,

-Shant

I meant traditional painting and drawing. If you dont have the trained artistic eye then learning Photoshop might not do you any good. Are you good at drawing?

The good news is that Gnomon has some great concept art classes and for traditional art there are quite a few options (Gnomon, Otis, community colleges, etc).
