Thought of finishing a model of mine and this time around give her nice hair so I was wondering, how do you creeate hair for your characters. She's going to be on the cartoony side, but I still want her human features to look realistic, like hair, skin pores etc. So I found these two on youtube and thought the ponytail hairdo is more towards I was thinking, although the other short hairstyle is really nice.

It says the pony tail hair simulation is created with syflex using polygon strands. This means they modeled plenty really really thin strands to run simulation on? I'm not familiar with syflex so I wouldn't know what features it holds, but is this a good approach?
On the next one they used syflex in combination with shave and I really like the style they have there. Perhaps shave is a good way to go? But why use syflex in combination?
