View Full Version : Is there a plug-in that would make this easier?
MLMckenzie 09-04-2003, 08:22 PM I need to model a realistic human brain, and was wondering if there is a plug-in that would help speed this job up. In particular, making all of those folds and undulations, etc.
Thanks!

Hehe, Bhodinut presents: The Cranial Composition Made Easy!
Um, sorry, don't know of a plug in. Personally I think you'd be able to do fine with a displacement map. Just model two high poly lobes (mirrored I'd gather), and the displacement map probably wouldn't even have to be seamless if you make it beig enough since each lobe could hide the meetings place of the other, if you know what I mean.
Do you have to or do you want to model a brain? There are some very good free brain models to be found on the web. I canīt provide a link but I found some a year ago, when I needed them for a quick job. Google is your friend - (sometimes).
If you want to model it yourself:

The tutorial is for Lightwave but should be easy to "translate" it to C4D

It is rather vague I guess but I saw that the compilation of 3 ditools dishapers are making some "sort of" brain circonvolutions.
I would give ditools a try.

That is the real question; all depends if you have to model it just ouside, inside or both ; is it for an animation or just as a still?
All the answers sent through to you since your post are relevant but they all answer different situation and/or application...
Post a sketch with what your looking for that could help.
BTW: @pit great link for that LW brain it is awsome. thanx

Hi all,
Thanks for the many replys and suggestions. To answer a few of the questions: This brain will be in the into of a demo reel and will be the "host" you might say. So yeah I need/want to model the brain. It will be animated (just basic camera moves, and some eye movements) and then brought into After Effects (for additional motion graphics done there).
Pit: I found that lightwave tutorial a while ago, but thanks for reminding me :-)
Mesh Surgury looks like it might be helpfull, but I don't know if I can wait until it is available. Anyway, I will just start with the images I have downloaded and plug away for now.
Thanks!
ohh attach the eyes to the brain too. so they can move around and look about...
ohh and like have it in a jar of green stuff too. Now that would be cool looking.
