View Full Version : Win7 and Maya
doublesixes 03-10-2010, 10:48 PM Hi guys, I was wondering if Maya 6.0 (XP) will work acceptably well on an I3 running, 6 gigs ram, Geforce GTS 240 with Windows 7 for light duty applications.
I have always used Maya on my HP laptop (xp pro and quadro nvs320) flawlessly but was considering buying a win7 game box for everyday home use with the added ability to play with Maya
Thanks in advance

My guess is Maya 6.0 will not work in Windows 7. Nor will it be able to take advantage of that hardware anyway since its 32-bit. I'd either stick with Windows XP where you know it works, or get a newer version of Maya. Cheers!

Would running XP mode in Windows 7 work instead? Just curious.

Probably not because the display in Maya uses OpenGL and 3D acceleration isn't available in virtual machines (yet). Dual booting is probably the best option. Cheers!

You shouldn´t run into any issues, Maya 6 should work even better under Win 7 and newer hardware.

Maya 6.0 will work in Windows 7. Why you're still using it though is anyone's guess! I started in 2004 with Maya 6. It's now 2010... The updates would be worth more than every penny, for a six-year upgrade...

Yeah, i read good things about the coming 2011 Suites of Maya and Max.
Alone the integrated Toxik and Matchmover will be worth the money.
I read good things for XSI too, it now will have Face Robot integrated, if i´m not wrong, checking it out is definitively worth too.
