Scott Harris 09-04-2003, 05:24 PM this is a project I have been working on for quite some time. (almost two months) For the Museum of Natural History in New York City. All together almost three full minutes of animation t be displayed in the Hall of Meteorites Theater. This shot was compleated in 2 eight hour days from start to finish. looking pretty cool man, the one thing you really want to mess with is the trail at the end.
here's a picture I found that might explain why.

If it is burning up as it goes through the atmosphere like you're showing with the front of your meteorite then, like the picture, there would be a trail of smoke and debree burning off.

Thanks a lot, that picture is pretty cool. Yeah I have been trying to shuffle through books and talk to the geologists that work here at the museum ... there is a lage flare that occurs for only a split second when these things enter the atmosphere...
This is actually a 12 second animation clip that goes through the whole process... I wish I could show it for crit... hopefully soon I will be able too.
You wouldn't believe the difference between an iron based, and rock based meteor as it enters the atmosphere ... its really crazy and over 4 billion tons of this material enters the earth every year!
