Title: Under My Skin
Name: Michael Oswald
Country: USA
Software: Photoshop

Of all the concepts I have written down, this one was at the top of the list and I'm happy to have it finished.
It has a real Boris Vallejo feel to it in my opinion which I think is a good thing.

Model: Daniella Bae. The reference photos for this artwork were taken in my living room. The model brought her boyfriend who did the hand modeling here. It took about 5 photos to piece this together.

For something we see everyday, hands are still very tricky to get right. You have done a masterful job with each one. Great concept, she ain't bad lookin' either.

Well, Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell are my heroes, and my opinion is............yes, there is a Boris Vallejo feel to it. It's actually reminds me of several of his images (were some of them references?). I feel like there's tribute to a couple of images (not the least obvious is "Hands").

When I first saw the piece, I did think of Boris Vallejo, even before I read the description, so that's hats off to you. It's espcially apparent with the tilt of the head and the hands. Your hands are really great. Great detail, smooth rendering, and nice work with values and showing the knuckles and veins.

I like the pinkish tones at the top of the image, but I think it gets a little muddy further done (not too bad, but just a little). And the hips flattened a little into the mist. Overall though, this is really cool. Once again, great rendering of values and the skin tones. Keep it up. Great job.

thanks. there is one image of Boris' that comes to mind: it's the one where the female is being held back by the arms and there are a few other hands holding her back. Looking at it now, it is very similar but I didn't use it as an actual reference.

Hi MichaelO, I'd like to ask a question if you don't mind - how much of this image is an actual painting? Looking at the photo that you included as a reference and the words you used in the description ( "it took 5 photos to piece it together ) - it seems like this is a photo-montage with some additional parts painted - obvious ones are hair and clothing.I could be wrong though. Do you mind sharing that information?
I like the image - especially the color palette, however, as you pointed out it is strongly based on "Hands" by Boris Valleyo, the head tilt is almost the same - I'm quite surprised it ended up as an Awarded Image here. No offense, I just think it is not very original that's all.

Beautifull work. I would put it somewhere I could look at it often. But with the praise, a tiny observation: I think the character dissolves a bit too much in the myst, on region of the hips. Maybe it was intentional.

Once again, great work!!!

Great anatomy job and composition. The colour tone, the woman's expression, the hands are makin the picture very interesting. The picture is also, thanks the hair and body position, full of motion. Two thumbs up.

Great work! Very beautiful. And model is pretty good.

But there are some little things, that come forward, than looking longer, and in this type of realism they look not so well.
First, fold on her left hand, between first two fingers. I think, on photo it was, because of man's finger on it.
And second thing is her neck. The fold is a little darker than need, and light is a little not in place. I feel like her neck is broken... Sorry.

That is only my opinion, maybe I am wrong :) I can't draw this kind of images, so, please, don't take it hard. :)

Nice concept. Good modeling for sure.

It seems you may have lost track of the man's thumb, however, on the woman's mid-section. The hand on her right thigh is amazing though, giving us the full effect of actually rising from beneath her skin.

Awesome.

I really like how it gets lost in the background near the bottom; it's like a taunt to anyone who may want to say it's just a photo manipulation or something. But even then the brush strokes are quite nice.

Also, regarding the similarity to Vallejo's Hands, I like the pose your work shows in contrast to his piece. Similar for sure, but there's just more sensuality to your piece, in my opinion. And a little more creepiness, too.

This is cool! The groping embraced hands from an unseen person is something associated with horror but the was you have incorporated here is very pleasant indeed! Nice concept and good combination of photograpy and digital painting :)

Very nice handling of the light on the skin surface,,,and mastery in anatomical rendering. You have successfully conveyed her beautiy, congrats. I feel though, there is something awkard in the neck area. ..just in the way the structure of the throat is so emphasized.,, I had a look at the reference jpeg and see that you were faithful to your reference image....
In my opinion though, with the sternocleidomastoid muscle and the structure of the throat so pronounced this detracts from the overall beauty. Perhaps some softening of the shapes might help.

i love the hands! I love the fact that this piece could have become highly sexual, yet you kept the class up, so the drawing has a sensuality that dangers between, sexuality and innocence. Definatly an amazing piece.
