View Full Version : selecting extra vertices
ayrads 03-08-2010, 10:25 AM i have discovered that there are quite a few unnecessary vertices in my model that had not been deleted when i had deleted some polygons. how do i select these extra vertices that do not have any edges or polygons connecting them? i need to delete them. also- is there a way to automatically delete all vertices when i delete the polygons or edges associated with them?

In the statistics palette under "Vertices" -> "By Edge" you can click on the little + icon to the left of the entry "0" (which means you are selecting all vertices that are connected to zero/ no edges). Press Delete.
is there a way to automatically delete all vertices when i delete the polygons or edges associated with them?
This already is the default behavior in Modo. If you want to delete edges and keep the vertices you have to specifically activate that option in the "Remove Edges" dialog.

thanks so much for your response, ezekiel! i'm now able to select these extra vertices and delete them.
i still seem to be having problems with vertices that remain once polygons are deleted. definitely not a default behaviour in my modo 401. something to do with my settings, perhaps?

When you select some polygons, rightclick and select "remove" from the menu the vertices will not be removed. If you want the vertices to be deleted also simply select the polygons and press the "Delete" key on your keyboard.
If you already did that and the vertices still remain I have no idea whats going on.

if you hit backspace to delete a polygon, verts will remain in place. but if you hit the delete key, verts will be deleted with the polygon.
i don't know if there's a 'clean unusued geometry' option to get rid of all

seneca's mesh cleanup script will clean up loose verts and non-manifold edges and whatnot:
