Hey all...just finished my demo reel. It's my final project for my Bachelor's Degree in Digital Media, with my very last class being tomorrow! Please view it on my website, and critique/comment on the YouTube channel. Thanks all!

Thanks! I'm personally quite partial to the end rayfire scene and the Krakatoa ones, and on my next composite I'll take your advice in mind!

Pretty cool stuff man. I do have a few crits though. First off, you might want to make a simpler, more professional title card. Something simple with your name and contact info would be better I think. At least from what I've read, people reviewing reels want your name/contact info to be very simple and very clear.

One thing I'd be sure to do though is go on youtube or vimeo and watch everybody's Rayfire/Fume FX stuff and try to show really impressive stuff that is different from what's on there. As awesome as a lot of your stuff is (and it is beautiful, don't misunderstand!), I've seen a lot of really similar looking stuff. So just as a self-marketing suggestion, I would try to show unique, but equally impressive stuff. For example, the coolest thing I thought in there was the red smoky/dusty stuff around 0:20 seconds in. I hadn't really seen that before and it was awesome. Overall you've got some nice work in there though! Keep it up!

I agree with you...making most effects without being able to re-create environments or models takes a toll; I've been trying to work more models and environments into my scenes, but yeah; making my effects stand out is my main issue so far. Thanks for the constructive criticism...if there are any questions on how a scene was created or the process behind it feel free to ask! Also, on my online portfolio (http://www.dakotadk.com) there are stills from each scene that also display the 1280x720 render from each render.
