I'll be modeling and texturing this. And I would love to see this tree talk. Even if the 6 weeks runs out before I get to that stage.
I think this is a great idea by the way.

Really nice sketch. I like the scale of the tree character. So often when a tree is turned into a character it's scale is set so it's face is about the hight of a human. I really like the idea of having a giant old tree.

Yeah, awesome sketch!! Looks like he belongs in that old movie Labyrinth... I'd be pretty scared to live by one of those though - what happens to your little house when one of them sneezes?? :surprised
Are those mushrooms growing on the one side?
Looking forward to seeing it in 3D :bounce:

Thanks for the comments on the sketch.
The big sneeze is an awsome idea!
Here is a start on the model. Haven't started the leaves yet. That should be fun!

Awesome model. I was digging on the sketch, and the model is a perfect realization of it. Very nice job.

wow, very cool, and a great match to the sketch..really dig the concept..
though it's kinda creepy in the sketch he's got steps leading up to his mouth :)
you going to do the facelike form in the rocks as well? are they neighbours?

Hpercube: actually those are going to be mushrooms that act as steps. A condition of that character being able to live in that house is to maintain the tree..little things like ridding it of the frog that lives in the tree, wipping the sap that drips from its nose, chasing away the woodpeckers etc..
And yes, the rockface across the water is a neighbor. It entertains me to think of the kind of friendship they'd have after centuries of being so close to one another and not being able to move.
Anyway the more I work on the model the more the story is seeming to unfold. Fun stuff.
enough talk, for now. hehe
glad there is a likeness to the sketch. I was a little worried about that.

LOL I'd love to hear an argument between the tree and his neighbor the rock.
Rock: "You come over here, and I'll kick your stump! You poor excuse for a toothpick!"
Tree: "Why don't you make like my cousin and leaf. You lichen covered looser!"
Rock: "Don't make come over there. I'll tear you limb from limb."
Tree: "If my roots weren't holding me back I'd kick you square in the stones!"
hehehe

I Love how he looks as though he is grasping the house. It makes me think of Hamlet considering Yorick's skull.
It really adds an implied inner dialog.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
I wish I could post an update but I've been busy trying to find work;)
Time is ticking away though, so I'm going to try and put some effort into it this weekend and at least finish the house and the tree.
