I don't know if anyone else is having the same problem, but the last couple of weeks, I've been bombarded with pop-ups like never before. Most of the time, it's happening on sites that I haven't had any issues with before(like this one).
I downloaded the google taskbar and since this morning it's already blocked 204 pop-ups. I'm getting them even when I'm not browsing. What's up with that? Anyone else having the same thing? I don't know if it's normal or something else. It all seems to have started after my computer got hit by the blaster virus.

It's probably because the virus opens up a bunch of ports for people and apps to hop into.

Might wanna check that.

I think you need to run ad-aware6.0 (http://www.lavasoft.de).

Whoever makes this scummy crap (ie. viruses) deserves to be tarred, feathered and SHOT :annoyed:

...Or put on national TV. People who get viruses deserve it. And in the end it will be a good learning experience for them anyway.

Go see the "hosts" (no extension, open in NotePad) file located in C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc and check if there's any nasty porn site addresses listed. If so, remove 'em.

So what is there to 'discuss'?
Isn't this a technical forum thread question?

maybe you should switch your internet browser. i'm using mozilla for a long time now and have absolutely no pop-ups.

Im having the exact same problem (and yeah its ever since i got that virus). If i go away from my computer for a few hours i have to click the ok button on them like 50 times. They're always those ones that say do not click OK before you write this web address down! I'd do something about it...but im too lazy

Yeah I am a little more irritable and violent than usual at the moment - for the past week I have been suffering from THOUSANDS of spam emails flooding my inbox all become some IDIOT who had me on the address book (don't know who) was DUMB enough to open a "Please see attached file" email from someone they have never heard of :argh:

That sobig virus is driving me mad :argh:

At least it's slowing down a bit now - around the middle of last week I was getting around 1500 emails a day, now it's gone back down to about 200 a day. But it's infuriating nonetheless and has seriously gotten me pissed off :annoyed:

I feel sorry for you Leigh, all of my friends are not dumb, so as a whole we never get viruses transfered by address lists.

btw you mentioned the google tool bar, did you read the thread on google, i had a small idea that the toolbar is causing half of the pops so it can claim it has blocked them, whist giving you loads more anyway.

Rei - popup free since '93
