View Full Version : Vehicle: Redo of my chopper bike with VRay
ApocGFX 09-04-2003, 03:04 AM Well, finalRender sucks, VRay rules... what else can I say???
I took the advice of some of the people that replied to my last post done with finalRender, and tried to improve on some stuff... There is still some imperfections in the detail, but I'm gonna leave it the way it is and start a new bike with MUCH more attention to the detail of each and every part, plus more creative design aspects.
Any comments on the rendering are, as always, very welcome :)

nice job, only crit i have is with the handlebars. A regular chopper's handle bars don't go straight out like that. they curve up and back so the rider doesn't have to lean forward to hold on to them. there are also no rear view mirrors (not exactly legal is it?)
other than that, great job on the engine and i love the paint job.

The model is totally kick-ass.
As for the render... Well, my personal taste is that it is too blue (are you using an HDRI to generate the GI?).
Could be subjective though.

Also, sorry about your bad fR experience... It's doing its thing fine here.
Ps. Apologies for the "paint over" type approach, I know it's not very tactful.... It was just the easiest way for me to illustrate the idea. Sorry, really not meaning to be an ass, as I do really like your work.

Very cool! I just watched the Great Biker Build-off on Discovery a few days ago and am itching to model one myself. Yours reminds me of the East Coast builder's custom (2nd show). Nice flame job!
I second the handlebars being too straight. They should curve back towards the rider.

Purefire: Damn it I knew I forgot something... That's on my list of things to do right next to putting something to attach the front fender to the bike...
Dordoulin: It's funny you should bring up the handlebars. One of my close friends is into building bikes and helps out doing so at a shop, and when he saw my original handlebars, (seen below) told me several times to put "straight drag bars" on. His explanation was that if the bars are curved back at the rider you have to cock out your elbows instead of having a straight relaxed grip. So, I took his advice :) I've kind of grown fond of them, but maybe I'll do a new rendering w/ the old bars...

Old paint job, low quality rendering WIP, but the old bars are there for ya...
brittnell: Thanks very much for the crit... Your are correct in the HDRI causing the blueness... The map is of a city street with a blue sky and apartment buildings. The floor map is a plain gray color... What you did taking the blue out looks interesting... I think I will try a different HDRI and maybe put some texturing and environment in there to add to the realism and things to reflect off the bike...
BadMange: The frame is based off the Diablo II frame from West Coast Choppers. The flames and the skull are all hand airbrushed in photoshop with some selection and filter help heheh
MMC Stitch: Thanks for the comments man, the blueness is sort of relaxing in a way, but I think it might take from the realism.
Thanks to everyone for the replies and kind words... Much appreciated.

Ah, Jesse James. I had the wrong coast. Great job on the flames, btw.
And I take back what I said about the handlebars. After seeing your second render, I prefer the straight ones. And what your friend said makes sense (about the elbows sticking out).

New rendering w/ environment and different HDRI map to reduce the blueness of the picture...
