Hi.

i'm kinda new to painter in general. I'm using painter 8, and i found its Design Marker Brush settings. they are good, but i was wondering is there a way to make them mimic the style of Pantone Tria Pens? what i mean by this, is that the default Design markers, seem to darken rapidly when you go over them a few times. even tho its opacity is set to 10% with the real Tria pens, they appear slighty translucent on each stroke, but dont darken when u apply another colour. i'm playing around with the brush creator, but no luck so far!

i guess you will only know what i mean if you use Tria Pens yourself.

to see an example of what i want to acheive look Here (http://www.geocities.com/rustyeye_bm/links.htm)

been playing around and managed to make a similar brush to real Trai pens. but its not perfect

it works well for grey colors, but on darker shades of other colors, the effect becomes less convincing.

if you want to try the brush i made yourself, and maybe add to it, or make it better, then download it here (http://www.geocities.com/rustyeye_bm/links.htm)

if people are willing to share their custom brushes, then maybe thier should be a brush depositry, kinda like the texture and shader ones! i dunno, just a suggestion!

Thanks for the free brush. Works good here. I just bought Painter 8 (As an 'upgrade' from Photoshop) and a wacom tablet. Love them so far...Have a looooong way to go though. I'll post up any brushes that I make as well. If there is enough interest I'll host a depository for brushes, etc. Here's my first time playing in Painter with the Wacom. It's nothing great, but I kinda like it.

yeah, i dont have a wacom tablet yet, but i have just gotten to the "playing with the brushes" stage with painter 8 also. its crazy how many brushes there are! i just gotta figure out how to mimic my reallife style with painter. which should be interesting considering i use acrylic paints, but water them down so they resemble watercolors more than acrylics.

Rather then posting a new Thread, I though I ask you guys here.

I have Painter 7 and I was wondering if anyone has a set of Pantone Markers they can send me.

I'm guessing I just need the brushes not the full set of colours.

Please help! :)

I"m sorry to bother you guys again, but I'm new to painter and I don't know how to import the brush into Painter. I tired importing it from the brush palette. There were no import formats that would support the ones that you provided in the zip file.

I know I'm doing something wrong. :( If it's no trouble could you explain how to import brushes and where to place the files?

Thanks in advance.

oh right ! ok. its fairly simple..

go to Programs>corel painter 7>brushes>painter brushes>felt pens (or whatever) and copy all the files into thier!

as long as you have the brush files (.stk,.nib and .xml) in a brush folder, you should be sorted. i only assume that painter 7 uses the same file formats!

good luck! if you get anywhere, post some images, it would be nice to see what can be done. i'm still working on stuff"

Thanks for all your help, When opneing Painter I get two error messages from the .XML document telling me that so and so line has errors.

Anyway, when I click on the felt pen I get somethign that could ressembale the Pantone pen but I don't get any where close to the same effect that you posted earlier. It might be a cross between the Painter 8 file format and Painter 7 program that's messing things up.

Oh well!

Thank you so much for your help at least I know how to load brushes now :P

Hi,

If the brush variant, or brush variants, was/were based on a Brush Category in Painter 8 that doesn't exist in Painter 7 it probably won't work in Painter 7.

For instance, the parameters for Painter 8 Digital Water Colors don't exist in Painter 7 and earlier versions.

In addition, while Painter 8 does create matching file name .NIB and .STK files associated with each .XML brush variant file, Painter 7 does not use .NIB and .STK files.

When sharing a Painter 8 brush variant, it is not necessary to also share the .NIB and .STK files associated with the brush variant as Painter 8 will automatically create them the first time the brush variant is used.

What is necessary when sharing either Painter 7 or Painter 8 brush variants is to remember that if the brush variant is a Captured Dab brush variant (its brush dab is based on an image), the associated (same file name) .JPG Captured Dab image file must also accompany the .XML brush variant file.

Overall, it is not a good idea to add custom brush variants to the default Painter Brushes library. It can become bloated and slow down Painter's performance.

Instead, inside Painter 7 or Painter 8, learn how to create custom Brush Categories with associated JPG icon image files (with the same name as the Brush Category folder). The JPG icon image file is automatically created when you draw a square selection around an image, then create the new Brush Category.

Then, in your file manager, you need to create a custom Brush Library folder and place those custom Brush Cateogries and their associated JPG icon image files in the custom Brush Library.

Before attempting to share custom brushes with people who have earlier versions, first take note of the brush category and brush variant on which your custom brush variant was based. Then let the person you're sharing your custom brushes with know so they can figure out if their version will accept the brush variant.

Some brush categories that will not work with earlier versions:

Painter 6, 7, and 8 Impasto

Painter 7 and Painter 8 Liquid Ink

Painter 7 and Painter 8 Water Colors

Painter 8 Digital Water Colors

Brush categories that will not work with later versions:

Painter 6 and earlier Water Colors will not work in Painter 7 but may work (as if they were Digital Water Colors) in Painter 8.

There are probably others as well but those are the biggies that come to mind right now.

None of the brushes from Painter 7 or Painter 8 will work in Painter 6 and earlier versions as Painter 6 and earlier version brush variants were not .XML files. Instead, the entire Brush Library was contained in a single .BRS file.

Some brush variants can be recreated in Painter 6 and earlier version, however, but it's a time consuming manual process of making each and every setting for each and every brush variant. It doesn't always work for the reasons explained above.

Geocities doesn't allow you to directly link files and pictures, to prevent their site from being abused by warez (storing files) or porn (pictures) sites.

So you can solve it by making a page at geocities that has a link to the file (like: click here to download, etc) and the picture & it'll work perfectly.

So if you ever have the time to do that, it'll be incredibly appreciated ;)

About the tria pens - I can't manage to use the art marker either. And I'm running out of ink for some colors, so being able to do that in painter would be really awesome! :D

Thanks a lot :)

what looks like a scanned work?

ok heres a pic of the brush settings. this might be easier to view. it means changes can easily be discussed. all the changes are in the first 4 settings. its still not perfect. any assisted improvemnet would be very appreciated.

just go to brush setup link here (http://www.geocities.com/rustyeye_bm/links.htm)

(and thats a XP skin OSX conversion.)
