Hey all,
I need to buy a mid range workstation for myself. I am a generalist and would be doing a little bit of everything, ranging from 3D asset creation, lighting using Mental Ray, Vray, Renderman right up to realflow, particle simulations and all the works. I want a system that wont get stuck anywhere.
I have around $3500 to $4500 to burn, thats around INR 1,50,000 to 2,00,000.
What I have got to till this point is the following:
Processor:
Intel i7 975 extreme
or
2 Xeon Quad core E5520
These are going to cost me nearly 50 grand. Is the performance worth all that money, when i can get i7 920 for 15??
Graphics Card
nVidia QuadroFX 1800
or FireGL v7700
or FirePro v7750
or FireGL v 5700
I like v7700 for its price (around 27K) but it supports OpenGL 2.0, whereas all the other support minimum 3.0 Although Maya 2010 is still using openGL 1.5, but my system might go obsolete with the upcoming versions. Do I need to be worried about this??
On the other hand v7750 (around 50K) has openGL 3.0 and additionally supports shader model 4.1 as compared to 4.0 supported by all other cards.
Is it worth spending on??
Looking forward to some guidance...
