View Full Version : quick setup for car rendering
himadrism 03-02-2010, 02:06 PM i am using maya 2010...& i am currently modeling a car....while its still in WIP, i want to render it occasionally so i can be sure that my model is smooth & there are no bumps or uneven surfaces....can anyone help me with a render setup that will not take too long but will help me see if i have any problems with my model...most of the times everything looks good in the viewport....i would also like to learn how people normally check for bumps & uneven surfaces in a car model...
thank you..

hey himadrism, I dont really know what you mean by bumpy? but I just finished this gnomon tut and then textured it and lit it on my own Car Image #6 (http://cargocollective.com/mhdsgn#241118/Personal-Work). Its obviously flawed ex: tires, wheel well lighting, scene ligthing, etc. but it was pretty simple to finish the render after the 20 hours of learning how to model it! haha :arteest:

A real simple way to check your geometry is to crank up the specular in the material. That should bring out the biggest flaws. Additionally you can add some lights in the scene to bring out highlights you wouldn't see with only the default light.
