When modeling a characters face do we keep the eyes open closed?
what is the best starting point?
If it is dependent on circumstance, then what should you do if you want to maximize the amount of poses you can achieve with model?

Ive searched for somewhere that goes into this in more detail but i couldn't manage to find any decent amount of material.

The majority of models i have seen have the eyes open...

-NOTE: im not trying to model this lady specifically. The character i am modeling is located here (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=43&t=856243).

Ty in advance for any advice and or links.

I prefer to model them opened and then i close them for texturing.

It all matters on how you want to animate them and being aware of the issues you will run into when you rig them. While I prefer the eyes to be opened myself, it doesn't really matter. I like it because it gives a better representation of the model for layout. Texturing would rather have them closed. But either way you go, be aware that in the picture you posted, there is deformation taking place outside of just the lid being opened. The corneal bulge is contributing to the shape as well. I marked the little bump the lid gets when it slides over the iris. You should try and model without this bump to avoid strange interpolation artifacts as the lid transitions to its down shape. Typically I will model in a clean shape without this bulge then add it in later with a deformer that follows the iris to bulge it back out.
Hope it helps.

Thanks for the input guys, i will texture with the eyes closed, but keep a model with the eyes open.. maybe use a blend shape to switch between the 2. As for corneal bulge detail... i will avoid modelling that till the model is finalized and ready for blend shapes.

Ty for the input!

back to work....
