I just received Ed's book in the mail this past weekend. I'm halfway through it, and so far it's been very helpful. Lots of nuggets of wisdom that I haven't seen anywhere else. Great work, Ed! (Though there are some typos, most notably the word "lose" as in "don't lose your head" is often misspelled, i.e. "don't loose your head". Minor detail, but just thought I'd mention it.) Other than that, it's an excellent resource...it's worth it just for the list of job contacts alone!
I was actually looking for it on the cgtalk search and thanks you put it back on the top of the forums. :)
Great book. I finished it this evening. If only Ed had of written this about 6 years ago.....man it would have saved me so much time and troubles! :) A fun read for a bookhound nonetheless.

I too am reading the book. If I was teaching again, I would recommend this book to my students. ;) You know, the demo reel i sent out to all those companies had a cool cover and labels etc. LOL
Thx for an excellent book!

I would like to get hold of this book, but I can't find anywhere in europe that sells it yet? The other place, Booksurge, wanted to charge $29 for shipping.......I am currently looking for Work Placement and this book would be a bit useful!
Thanks, great articles!

Thanks for the kind words everybody. I hope that you enjoy the book as much as I enjoyed writing it.
As for anyone in the UK/Europe.....
You can buy the book directly from me and only pay $9 for shipping.
So.... For those of you not in the USA that want the book, and don't want to pay high shipping charges, you can also buy it from me as I only charge $3. :)
On a side note, Amazon carries the book but make sure that you buy a "use and new" book from one of their resellers, not the amazon copy. (Since amazon charges so much.) The use and new ones are 100% new and half the price.

Thanks for the offer by the way and I WILL be buying it (eventually!)!

Hey Ed,
Great book, followed your advice and the insight you gave for my demo reel to a big studio. It went over well and I made it to another round of reviews. Any advice on what to wear for the interview? I'm confidently hoping that I might get the chance.
Cheers,
Tom N.

lukx, Thanks a lot!
tjnyc, I would wear something casual. Don't wear a suit and tie, but don't go wearing ripped jeans and a stained t-shirt. Something safe like a comfortable shirt and tan pants would be fine. Most CG interviews are very laid back. The most important thing is to relax and be yourself. (easier said than done.)
Tom N. Hope you enjoy it as much as everyone else has!

Wow, my copy arrived today in the UK and it was only posted Monday. What service :)
So far only had time to skim and read the cartoons, so funny. But so far I'm impressed.

That's great to hear Clanger. 4 days is pretty good for shipping from the USA to UK, considering it has to go through customs. Nice to hear that you like the cartoons. I believe that it helps make a serious subject a little more enjoyable. My favorite one is the guy, with the cat sleeping in his inbox, asking "Who included a cat with their demo reel?" That one still makes me smile.
