This is the video for the Linkin Park song New Divide (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysSxxIqKNN0) from Revenge of the Fallen.
I wonder how is done that compression-transition effect...
Like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysSxxIqKNN0#t=0m20), this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysSxxIqKNN0#t=0m27) , etc.
Anyone have a suggestion?

check out Trapcode Form and Particular : http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/products/all/trapcode-suite/

There are some pretty good tutorials over at CreativeCow.net for getting started with the 2 plugins.

One of the effects you might be referring to is called datamoshing.

It's an interesting technique, but I think it will ultimatly go the way of the lense flare. IE: Unless used subtly and with purpose, it will end up being a somewhat of a cheesy effect every time.
