View Full Version : Support software for AE
02-26-2010, 02:33 PM
My boss has given us the green light for us to buy any support software we might need for AE.
We already have in our office,
Final Cut Pro, AE, Photoshop, Adobe Connect, ToomBoom and Flash.
We do a lot of video content that might be delivered in a multiple variety of formats.
from webstreaming to HD video.
Your ideas would be appreciated.

Compressor is just ok because it's bundled with FC, but annoying when you have to encode large batches of files so get something decent like Sorensen Squeeze.
For AE try the Trapcode Plugins, especially Form and Particular.
Automatic Duck is nice to have when you need to exchange sequences from Final Cut to AE.

Well as far as my favorites go:
The trapcode suite definitly stands out as an important set of plugins to have.
Unmult is a good free plugin to grab off red giants site as well.
Optical flares from Video Copilot looks like a great plugin to have around too, since knoll light factory is getting a bit outdated. I'm still waiting for a chance to try this one. They also have other plugins and presets that might be usefull.
Smedge is a great peice of software that allows you to do multi-machine rendering for After Effects, Maya, and a range of other software. It works on both PC's and Macs.
Sequence911 is a great little tool for renaming image sequences. This one is freeware
Depending on the work you do, Adobe Illustrator might also come in handy.
RSMB Pro is a good plugin for adding motion blur.
For multi-pass rendering ProEXR is pretty cool: http://www.fnordware.com/ProEXR/
Normality is a great plugin for re-lighting objects using normal passes. http://www.minning.de/software/normality
The other plugins on his site look pretty cool too, but i've never used them.
If I think of more I will post again. :)

GridIron's Flow would be one to look at. It supports more than just AE. In a nutshell it tracks everything you've done to create something.
