Hi there :),
This is my vision of a BMW lux-sport car. All suggestions are welcomed... :)

That's a really sweet concept, lighting, and render.

The only thing is that the anti-aliasing is really "stair stepped", which is a shame with such a nice render otherwise.

What's the deal with it?

Also, what software are you using?

DOMiN

Yes, that's right, it's really "stair stepped" but mostly because of the lack of time I had to render it. I used Rhino and FR for MAX.

Ah, I see...

Did you have AA turned off for your render, or did you just turn the settings way down?

I know the current AA is slow (I assume you're using S-1), but there are some tricks to speeding it up, if you're curious...

I'd be grateful if you could give me any clues how to speed it up. I've had problems with it since I remember. Thanks alot.

Nice!

I find it to be a bit reminiscent of Nissan's 350z...

And where's the tire valves?;)

Holy Sh#t!

This car looks great!
Excellent concept car and looks like a model that would be a great expansion of the current series.

I would try to contact BMW and give it a go.
How cool would it be to create a model and they would just it as a reference for future models.
Or use this one ofcourse...

Keep rockin'

Cheers. :)

Hey DOMiN,

Try this...

Turn Min samples to -1
Max samples to 2 (or 1 if you're in a real hurry)
Refinement to 4
Turn off Object Edges, Smooth Groups, Filter Image, and Filter Maps.
Make sure Low Contrast is on, and set the color to 8/8/8/
Set your bucket render size to 16 (I know it shouldn't make a difference, but sometimes it does).

Let me know if this helps.

Cheers,

Brittnell

Very nice.

It combines the flame surfacing aesthetic from the Z4 and the Japanese influenced Chris Bangle direction that BMW is already heading. It would surprise me to see something close to this as a new 6 series rev 2 in 2006 or so.

I'm thinking that the front grille is a bit to Pontiac though...although thats exactly what i thought when i saw the 6 series concepts...so it fits the theme.

Perhaps more important, however...is the engine specs? How bout making an M version? :)

I love BMW's especially the new 6er.
Your design has the BMW feel and an aggressive look.
It's awesome. Even ZAJEBISTY I'd say :applause:

thanks man , but what I ment was in "shaded/wireframe" mode

it looks really good, I like the design. One thing, can I see the trunk lid from the front?
I mean looking down at it from the back glass.
Is that a scoop into it? Like a spoiler, cool idea but I do not believe it would work very well giving anykind of stability, air usually needs to flow across the surface or through it to create a downforce.

Awesome car.:)

Hey that's a great work! ofcourse!

But about de design:
I think u should "smoth" the rear corner in the side windows in order to respect de BMW's most important distinctive details as are (for example) the double grid in the front.

That's why remindes a bit audi --> THAT SHARP CORNER!

btw, other thing:
the inside off the wheels, it looks a bit empty...

well that's what I think

Keep going!

thats mighty cool rhino modeling...

I think you could do more with the headlights, maybe round out the bottome edge so it has half circle cuts like some of the older BMW's,, maybe just one of them on each side would be cool.

anyway, not sure I'm making much sence.

but I to would like to see some Nurbs, see how you went about constructing it, like a rendered view with wires on.

Looks like you got a good handle on Rhino!

good job, but if you render on a shiny floor make a bottom to the car. your floor reflects the inside of the model totaly killing the effect for me. other then that the render is nice :)

awesome stuff DOMiN!

the render looks cool, but the camera lense seems strange to me, maybe I just like lots of perspective, 38mm is usually what I use, or around abouts.

when making the top and windshield did you make that all one sweep 2 rail and then split it where needed and those wheel arches look like you spent some time on getting them smooth. are those small blends from the wheel arch to the body surface, or fillets?

I love looking at nurbs models, so much work goes into them!

and I love the blend tool.

great job man.:wavey:

I love the model, however, the car looks a little bit too Audi TTish for me. The basic shape that is. The front looks like the beautiful fronts BMW comes up with. I love BMW and Dodge for the front ends of their cars and trucks.

Very good, but these are some points I'd pick out:

-The more I look at it, the front tire seems insignificantly small due to the large distinct rim of the body around the wheel well.
Maybe if that rim blended into the body more, or split off from the body later, or not split off at all.

-That is very much a variant of a Pontiac signature grille. But the body shape around it looks nice. The grille has a major role in defining a brand. If I see this car in my rear view mirror, I'd say "Pontiac". Once the head lights come within visible distance, I'd say, "I'm confused... what is that?"
Studying the difference between the BMW and Pontiac grilles:
-the top edge of the BMW grille is always horizontal,
-the BMW grille is much wider than tall (maybe you can reduce that a little with a hooded rim on top, like the Z9 and 6.)
-BMW has vertical stripes in the grille. Pontiac has the mesh.
-The outer edges of the grille is less angled on a BMW.

-Your car seems to have a lot of sharp cuts: such as in the rear, the junction of the C pillars and the trunk lid; and the front, the A pillars and the hood.
In consulting the BMW 6 and the BMW Z9 concept coupe, with their smooth rounded, continous, yet masculinely chiseled (but smooth) cornered shapes, your car feels like it dates to no later than the top of the line BMW of the late 1990's. (Otherwise it's VW or Japanese.)

-what happened to that tasteful little bit of orange in the headlight's pretty flamelicks?

-Rear does look Audi TT / VW Passat. Combined with the presence of the other distinct panels, I would say this is the work of Volkswagen/Audi, a little Pontiac, a little Chrysler, a little Japanese. And BMW donated the headlights. :p

It's a nice looking car though.
My rating:
TT < Passat < BMW 6 < yours = 350Z < RX-8 < Z9 coupe concept.

Domin, i have never modeled a car, can you tell me what you do to get the look on the actual cars surface? is that a env refelection? some quesion applies to the glass. i was just always curious as to what people are doing on there car renders. if its ENV reflection, im guessing your useing 3ds? what kinda projection are you using?

... and another render with a different hdr map...

THX a lot for all the comments :)
It's truth, looking at this car you may find some Audi's style(more Audi Nuvolari than TT)... It's because I love Audi's design as much as BMW's :) and it's really hard for me to forget about Audi's details. On the other hand, I've been impressed by the aggressive fronts of the BMW's since I remember... :)

Well, i have something to add...

It's about the rims. To me they seem... very fragile. Like, if the car ran over a speed bump too fast the wheels woudl just snap off like a toothpick... Dunno, just looks like a diskbrake and this tiny rim... nothing holding the wheels on well enough.

Krisc
09-07-2003, 04:35 AM
Mmmm, yea the more I look at it, the grille does look like a Pontiac grill but definately retains some BMW style. I am loving it more and more.

by the way, the rims do look a little brittle, Like the "spokes" don't meet with the outside, they just look glued on. Other than that it is a touring car with huge rims so I can understand the rim size to tire size ratio...
